Also known as Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, Für Elise (German for For Elise) is one of Beethoven’s most popular piano compositions, although it wasn’t discovered and published until forty years after his death. The identity of Elise is unknown. This early intermediate piano remix is done in the style of the Mission: Impossible theme, with a 5/4 time signature. 2 pages. Bach’s Cello Suites collection consists of six unaccompanied suites for cello, each with six movements. They are considered to be some of Bach’s greatest musical achievements. Flight of the Bumblebee was composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov as an orchestral interlude in his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. In the opera, the Tsar’s son is changed into an insect so he can fly away to visit his father, who doesn’t know that he is alive. This simplified piano remix starts out at a slower tempo, reminiscent of a tango, and gradually speeds up throughout. Intermediate level. 4 pages. Performance time: approximately 1:40.

Colonel Bogey March was composed in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts, bandmaster for the British Army, under the pen name Kenneth J. Alford. The sheet music sold millions of copies, and the melody has been used in a parody about the ill effects of consuming the cleaning product Comet. Two fun facts from Wikipedia: 1) It was the first song ever played by a computer; and 2) As of 2019, it was still the most commonly played song by ice cream trucks in the UK. This famous classical piece was composed by Edvard Grieg as part of the play Peer Gynt, and is played as the title character, Peer Gynt, in a dream-like fantasy, enters the troll Mountain King’s hall to face a great crowd of troll courtiers, gnomes, and goblins. The Mountain King sits on his throne, with crown and sceptre, surrounded by his children and relatives. Peer Gynt stands before him. There is a tremendous uproar in the hall and these lyrics are heard:

Slay him! The Christian man’s son has seduced
the fairest maid of the Mountain King!
Slay him! Slay him!

May I hack him on the fingers?
May I tug him by the hair?
Hu, hey, let me bite him in the haunches!
Shall he be boiled into broth and bree to me

Shall he roast on a spit or be browned in a stewpan?

The Turkish March (Alla Turca) is one of Mozart’s most widely known tunes, and is actually the third and final movement from his Sonata No. 11 for piano. He composed this sonata at about the age of 27, when the music of Turkish military marching bands was very much in fashion. This intermediate piano solo arrangement takes the tempo a bit slower and is based on the sounds of funk music: syncopated rhythms and heavy emphasis on the first downbeat of each measure.  5 pages with a shorter option to end on page 3.
