2023/4 is a collection of 11 pieces for solo piano. They are all written in ¾ time and were composed throughout 2023.

“Patience is the eighth piece from 2023/4. I started this piece back in July after a therapy session. I shelved it as I didn't know where to take it at the time, and brought it back later in the year, where I finished it.

I generally do not put pedal markings in my music - please use pedals (sustain & una corda) at your discretion. 

About the composer:
Matthew Colson is a hobby composer from New England. He began writing little piano pieces in 2003. Since then, he has written several pieces, ranging from piano to orchestral. On our life's journeys, we look for moments to pause and reflect.  In order to have these opportunities and fully immerse ourselves, we must find a quiet place, a safe haven, to do so.  Our sanctuary becomes our peaceful environment, our own time to look inward.  This solo piano work encompasses that idea with a calming presence.  The opening chords ring with anticipation of the upcoming serenity, evolving into a chiming motif pervasive throughout the work complemented with an inner-voice countermelody and supportive harmonies.  With this calming section of music, the next introduces a folk-like structure and variations of well-known church hymn melodies.  Transitions based on common tones expand the song to heightened levels unfolded into recapitulations of the bell-like motif patterns.  The song ends in an elongated, deeper sense of patience and tranquility reaching with extended plagal cadence and diminishing chime motifs fading into the distance.  You and your audience can fully immerse into this safe haven work and become whole once again.
