Tiger Rag is arranged as performed by piano artist, Liberace.  This is the same version he performed on his emmy award-winning t.v. show.  This version is written in the same sensational style; with dazzling virtuosity.

Tiger Rag is a jazz standard that was recorded and copyrighted by the Original Dixieland Jass Band in 1917. It is one of the most recorded jazz compositions. In 2003, the 1918 recording of Tiger Rag was entered into the U.S. Library of Congress National Recording Registry.

Tiger Rag was first copyrighted in 1917 with music composed by Nick LaRocca. In subsequent releases, the ODJB members received authorship credit.

Władziu Valentino Liberace(May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor.   A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, he enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!

Lyrics:

Hold that tiger, hold that tiger
Hold that tiger, hold that tiger
Hold that tiger, hold that tiger
Hold that tiger

Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger?
Here's that tiger
Where's that tiger? Here's that tiger
Where's that tiger? There's that tiger

Hold that tiger, hold that tiger
Hold that tiger, hold that tiger
Hold that tiger, hold that tiger
Hold that tiger

Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger?
Here's that tiger
Where's that tiger? Here's that tiger
Where's that tiger? There's that tiger
Hold that tiger

By Rebecca Chambers. By Gloria Jordan. Arranged by Gloria Jordan. Ragtime. Score. 3 pages. Gloria Jordan #891417. Published by Gloria Jordan (A0.1301824).

This is an exciting piece in the ragtime style of Scott Joplin-performed by international concert pianist Rebecca Chambers - it is fun to play!! As you play this piece you can vividly imagine the scenes from the Leonardo de Capprio  Gatsby film depicting that happy party era between the 2 World Wars  with the charleston dance steps , and the fabulous 20's flapper  dresses - the White tuxedos and the feathers in the 20's hair styles - the open cars - the parties!
I composed this piece with all of this in mind- you will find the last line of the rag quite an exciting  technical challenge!
Learn it slowly - then take it a  little faster every week!!! A great piece to play at a party- or concert.
My students love it, and often choose it for their extra list for 6th or 7th grade  exams  ,or own choice piece for AMEB  Piano for Leisure.

SKU: A0.998879

Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score. 4 pages. Robert A. Howard #6480941. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998879).

The Fragment series of short piano pieces was conceived for pianists of almost any standard. As suggested in the title, each piece is based on a single compositional fragment or sketch that had otherwise remained incomplete and dormant. Fragment VI is the final piece in this six-movement piano cycle (though Fragments may be performed separately). The work's main middle section bears some similarity in tone and mood to the first piece in the cycle, Fragment I. Fragment VI is slightly more technically challenging than the previous movements. It has an arch form whereby the two, slow, initial introductory sections return in reverse order as the conclusion. The extended centrepiece section cumulatively builds in texture, dynamics, and tension, and is a set of modal variations over a 4-bar descending ground bass. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for almost all standards of pianist, including students and more advanced players. Other works from the Fragment cycle are also available via Sheet Music Plus.
Duration: 4 minutes 10 seconds.

Composed by Gary Noland. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Ragtime. Full Performance. Duration 892. Freeland Publications #3238281. Published by Freeland Publications (A0.1069664).

Duration: 14'52 (1989). Computer-driven Yamaha Disklavier performance. One of my more famous pieces. Its historic premiere at Pacifica Radio (KPFA) in Berkeley on 4 October, 1991 to inaugurate their new facility is included in Nicolas Slonimsky's book Music Since 1900. It has been reviewed and written about extensively. Here is what some reviewers have said:

4 OCTOBER 1991: KPFA radio in Berkeley, California, dedicates its newly constructed, two-story broadcast facility at 1929 Martin Luther King Jr. Way with a live satellite broadcast … works on the inaugual program, produced and narrated by KPFA Music director Charles Amirkhanian, included … Grande Rag Brilliant [sic] by Gary NOLAND, a 15-minute rag introducing KPFA’s new Yamaha Disklavier grand piano, featuring fugues, frozen grace-notes to produce tone clusters, and a lengthy passage in which the music modulates up and down a half-tone each measure (the turntable change of speed effect) …-Nicolas Slonimsky, Music Since 1900

...remarkable stuff...-Max Morath, ragtime composer and pianist

… smashing and extremely difficult piano rag, … which is not distracted by the modulation-per-minute insanity of this beautiful and disorienting music … an exceedingly difficult composition by Berkeley composer Gary Noland, … the Grande Rag Brillante, Op. 15, was written in a modified turn-of-the-Century style and has never been performed successfully by a human pianist.  It features something Mr. Noland calls the 'record-player-turntable-change-of-speed-effect.'  In certain sections, each successive measure modulates up a half step into the next key signature, providing a mind-bending spiraling of focus which is truly breathtaking … spectacular… -Charles Amirkhanian, Folio (KPFA program guide)

            ...The Impossible Rag...-Oakland Tribune

...perfectly simulates a piano roll mistracking and continually changing keys...

-Dick Zimmerman, Rag Times

...masterpiece!...We recommend Mr. Noland's music for anybody who desires the witty and unexpected approach to the Ragtime idiom.-L. Douglas Henderson, ARTCRAFT Studio Newsletter, Wiscasset, Maine

Sort of like it ... electronicized ... ; then it becomes a real period piece, like Richard Taruskin’s theory about current HIP practitioners ...-William Bolcom, Pulitzer prize winning composer.

...Gary Noland's music is complex, technically daunting stuff....'Grande Rag Brillante'... seems to be meant as an excercise in psychedelic ragtime piano, full of extremely fast passages, confusing modulations, and bizzare dissonance....

-Butch Thompson, The Mississippi Rag

...KPFA Music Director Charles Amirkhanian plans to use the new Disklavier.

By Idalmo Santos. By Francisca Gonzaga (Chiquinha Gonzaga 1847-1935). Arranged by Idalmo Santos. Latin,Multicultural,World. Score. 4 pages. Idalmo Santos #687534. Published by Idalmo Santos (A0.1083332).

One of the most famous Brazilian songs and one of the best known compositions by Chiquinha Gonzaga, the modinha Lua branca has a history surrounded by mystery. It was written for the burleta Forrodobó, performed at Teatro São José in June 1912, as a modinha for the characters Sá Zeferina and Escandanhas, whose original verses maintain the caricature spirit of the play. In 1929, this romantic version appeared with the title Lua branca (White Moon), recorded by the singer Gastão Formenti, without the authorship of the verses and the new title being known to this day. Between the two versions, there was an arrangement on disc with the title Lua de fulgores by the singer R. Ricciardi, pseudonym of the paulista Paraguassu, but it was the version recorded by Gastão Formenti, accompanied on the piano by professor J. Otaviano, and the Irmãos Vitale edition with harmonization by the pianist that became famous. Chiquinha Gonzaga had to claim authorship of the modinha, denouncing plagiarism and obtaining victory through Sbat, an entity she founded. The original version was recorded as a comic scene by Pinto Filho and Maria Vidal, in 1930, with the title Sá Zeferina. Also the original melody with verses by Paulo César Pinheiro, entitled Serenata de uma mulher (A Woman's Serenade), was recorded by Olívia Hime in 1998. The version canonized as Lua branca has numerous phonograph records by singers and instrumentalists such as Paulo Tapajós, Paulo Fortes, Rosemary, Vânia Carvalho, Maria Bethânia, Verônica Sabino, Leila Pinheiro, Joana, Alessandra Maestrini, Antonio Adolfo, Eudóxia de Barros, Rosária Gatti, Marcus Vianna, Maria Teresa Madeira, and Leandro Braga.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ludwig van Beethoven. Classical,Concert. Score. 17 pages. Diamond S Music #5755359. Published by Diamond S Music (A0.790173).

Rondo a Capriccio in G Major, Op.129 - Rage Over A Lost Penny - Beethoven - Piano Solo.  The Rondo alla ingharese quasi un capriccio in G major, Op. 129 is a piano rondo by Ludwig van Beethoven. It is better known by the title Rage Over a Lost Penny, Vented in a Caprice. This title appears on the autograph manuscript, but not in Beethoven's hand, and has been attributed to his friend Anton Schindler. It is a favorite with audiences and is frequently performed as a showpiece. Robert Schumann wrote of the work that it would be difficult to find anything merrier than this whim... It is the most amiable, harmless anger, similar to that felt when one cannot pull a shoe from off the foot, citing the work as an instance of Beethoven's earthliness against those fixated upon a transcendental image of the composer. This new edition also contains a brief biography of Beethoven, some historical information about the piece, and a facsimile of a portion of the original manuscript.

Composed by Julia Muench. Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. NJ Original Music #3415599. Published by NJ Original Music (A0.940723).

Great for waking interest in that particular piano student and a really fun way to explore the pentatonic scale and 9th chords on the piano. Cross overs abound! I wrote this descriptive piece in particular for a student I was teaching, Elsa S., who ended up performing it on her Spring recital.

Julia Muench currently resides on the piano faculty at the Monmouth Conservatory of Music (now under the Count Basie Theatre umbrella) in Red Bank, New Jersey, with a large student class.

Her more recent musical activities besides composing, involve extensive piano teaching and giving piano recitals. The past two years, she has spent a good deal of time traveling in and out of the country. Italy and Chile have been among her destinations abroad. She performed a piano concert including her own composition, Nautilus Dances, as part of the Utopia Exhibit ( focusing on German Emigration to the US in the 1830's) in Washington DC's German Museum and at the Missouri history Museum in St. Louis, MO.

Her latest piano concert in Red Bank, NJ featured composers Chopin, Debussy and Khatchaturian. Many of her performances may be viewed on youtube under Julia Muench. She has her own musical article blog on Wordpress under musicflower.

She is a long time ASCAP member, where she was recently awarded and ASCAP writer's award for 2009/10. Julia has a MMA Degree from the University of Miami and has been composing since she was in her teens. She works regularly with ballet dancers at the Academy of Dance Arts in Tinton Falls, NJ.
