But while my etudes as a whole are loosely modeled after his, this piece, composed in 1992, is as stylistically remote from Chopin as he was from, say, Beethoven. My thirds etude is mellifluous., yearning, and deeply lyrical. It doesn't sound like an etude. It sounds like a distant song that just happens to be based on thirds and just happens to be quite difficult to play. Yes, virtuoso, no show-offy. Have fun.
