Dusk, the penultimate track from the debut album Reflections (2010). This was another piece which was composed for River Passage, the poem/text written by Jeff Phelps circa 2002 (before being developed slightly for the album). Sections of this piece ebb and flow through the entire text, along with the piece 'The Spring'. It's been on quite a journey over the past 18 years (at the time of writing); initially starting life as a 'performance piece', it was recorded as an audio tape/CD and published by Offa's Press in 2010 and it was later developed into an iOS app in 2017!

Tranquility, track 6 from the debut album Reflections (2010). This is another composition which was written for and inspired by the music/poetry collaboration project Severn Spirit with poetry by Jeff Phelps and Simon Fletcher c.2002. (Very) loosely inspired by 'The Feather Theme' from the Forrest Gump Suite by Alan Silvestri, the piece was intended to be a 'light and airy' portrayal of the river severn.

The Spring, the 1st track from the debut album 'Reflections' (2010). This started life as an accompaniment to River Passage (a poem written by my old man Jeff Phelps) c.2002. This is one of many pieces which were inspired by his text (and others) and this is also one of the rare occasions that I didn't change too much of it before it was recorded for the album. This 'miniature' piece (along with the other music written for River Passage) has been on quite a journey because in 2010 it was recorded as an audio tape/CD published by Offa's Press and in 2017 it was turned into an iOS app!

Dawn, the second track from the debut album 'Reflections' (2010). This is another piece that was inspired by text and started life as part of a poetry and music collaboration project called Severn Spirit with Jeff Phelps and Simon Fletcher c.2002. It was later developed slightly before being recorded for the album. It's most unique and special use though was when it was performed at the wedding of close friends when they asked me to play it live as the bride walked down the aisle. I'm still flattered that they chose this piece to be played during such a personal and important part of their day.

Moonlight, the 12th track from the debut album Reflections (2010). One of the shortest tracks from the album, this was another piece which was written specifically for the album. Initially inspired by a piano arrangement (by Thierry Lang) of a Freddie Mercury song, 'Guide Me Home', this piece was every bit intended to be light, short and sweet and for years opened my set in my concerts.

Lakeside, the third track from the debut album Reflections (2010). This is the first composition that was written specifically for the album. Loosely influenced by Erik Satie's Gymnopédies, this piece was described as the high point of the album by a review in Muso magazine (later to be incorporated within Classical Music Magazine).

'Stillness' the 10th track from the debut album Reflections (2010). One review of Reflections (from The Miniature Music Press - which sadly no longer exists) described the album as experiencing songs without words. That description fits this piece pretty accurately, as initially this was a song composed for Josh, my son, as a lullaby. The words didn't last long though as they were stripped from it and I decided to record it as a solo piano piece instead! I may publish the words one day……..

Cascade; a solo piano work from the album Shadows (2013). This piece was created for a therapist friend for 'Serenity', a 1 hour album of relaxing solo piano music. The piece was then rerecorded for the Shadows album shortly afterwards. The other 'fun fact' is that I opened it up to the Facebook community to title this piece, so I can't take credit for that part. It also became the 'soundtrack' to a wonderful short film by Larrikin Productions in 2016, so it's had quite a journey.

Fall, the 7th track from the debut album Reflections (2010). This is another composition which was inspired by poetry but for this piece the inspiration came from a poem called 'Autumnal Lake' written by a close friend. Composed c.2002 the piece has several different musical themes, one for each verse of the poem. What is even more special is that 16 years later it was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018, read by Faynia Williams with myself at the piano.

Starlit Waters, the 8th track from the debut album Reflections (2010). This is where it all began 'seriously' for me. Written in 1999, this piece won first prize in a composition competition and very much became the start of the journey of the whole album for the following 10 years! This was composed at a time in my life when I was using my pianistic skills to challenge my writing and vice versa. It was also at a time in my creative journey when I liked to cram as many different ideas into a piece of music as I possible could, something which I've been criticised for for my entire professional life (tough cookies I say!). It's definitely no coincidence that my interest in creating 'surprise' with sudden changes in music coincided with having Bohemian Rhapsody on constant repeat when was a kid!

Butterfly: a solo piano work from the album Shadows (2013) This piece was created for a therapist friend for 'Serenity', a 1 hour album of relaxing solo piano music. The piece was then rerecorded for the Shadows album shortly afterwards. It's strange how well certain tracks 'perform' on certain platforms; Butterfly currently has just over 187K plays on Soundcloud, outperforming all of my other work by about 500%! The other 'fun fact' is that I opened it up to the Facebook community to title this piece, so I can't take credit for that part. It also became the 'soundtrack' to a wonderful short film by Eirini Xyda-Kouka in 2016, so it's had quite a journey.

Blessing (dedicated to Joshua Luke), the 5th track from the Reflections album (2010). Joshua is my son and this piece was composed and performed for Josh's christening in February 2010. Originally composed for soprano voice and piano, it was reworked as a solo piano work for the album. 'The Musician' (the quarterly magazine from the Musicians' Union) kindly described this composition as outstanding and a stunning piece, which boasts a charming melody and gratifying flourishes.
