SILENT GIFTS Advanced Intermediate Piano Soloby ROBERT VAN HORNE8 PagesOn the evening of November 9, 2009, while rehearsing some Christmas music at the piano, inspiration for composing a holiday piano solo came to me after playing the beautiful Christmas classic Silent Night.After a few minutes of creating a melody, I quickly wrote down some of the ideas for this song while imagining the anticipation of Christmas with family and friends and the traditional custom of giving gifts.What would be the most natural gift to give anyone, I thought. After finishing the song, the answer became apparent - the silent gift of a smile and thus the title Silent Gifts.This Advanced Intermediate Christmas piano solo is clearly and carefully notated with dynamic marks, phrasing, suggested fingerings, pedal indications, chord identifications and appropriate musical terms for playing.Some of the chords are challenging especially when some notes are held while others are played with the same hand. Many of these chords include jazz ninths.
