Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1456161 Composed by Abe Holzmann. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Score. 9 pages. Keith Terrett #1035313. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1456161). Abe Holzmann wrote some very fine marches, but here's one inspired by a book. Herbert Kaufman's 1910 book The Winning Fight inspired this winning march (it's a book about self-mastery and fostering a can-do attitude). Tiis march was published by Leo Feist in New York City in 1911.Arrangement of a March by Abe Holzmann (1874-1939),  writthn in 1911. He also wrote what is probably his best known march Blaze Away''.Blaze Away! is a 1901 march by the German-American composer Abe Holzmann. It was his greatest success.Holzmann was inspired by the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War, when a command to American sailors to open fire on the Spanish fleet was reputedly met with the response Well boys, let's blaze away by the gunners. Building on the war fever in the United States, the cover of the sheet music featured an image resembling Theodore Roosevelt charging at San Juan Hill. Very popular as a two-step, its success outlasted the war and it became a repertoire piece amongst military bands around the world.Abraham Holzmann (19 August 1874 – 16 January 1939) was an American composer, famous for his march Blaze-Away! Abraham Holzmann was born in New York City. His parents were Jacob Holzmann, a Hungarian-Jewish immigrant and Isabella Holzmann, a native of Louisiana. The young Holzmann learned music in Germany. A review originally published by the New York Herald on Sunday, 13 January 1901, entitled German Composer who Writes American Cakewalk Music describes [h]is knowledge of bass and counterpoint is thorough, and his standard compositions bear the stamp of harmonic lore, which makes his proclivity for the writing of the popular style of music the more remarkable. Abe married Isabelle Fishblatt around 1908, and he became the manager of the Orchestra Department at Jerome Remick & Company, music publisher in New York. He was an early member (1923) of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He earned his livelihood as composer/arranger for Tin Pan Alley publishers, including Leo Feist. He later was advertising manager for the American Federation of Musicians publication, International Musician. He was a member of Freemasonry, the Elks, and Knights of Pythias, all in New York City. Holzmann died in East Orange, New Jersey at age 64. He was survived by his widow, a daughter Natalie Holzmann, three half-brothers, and four sisters. His music was especially revered by ragtime enthusiasts, although he composed marches, waltzes, and other light music. His 1899 composition Smokey Mokes was briefly featured in the 1936 movie San Francisco.

Published by Theoria Music Publishing (A0.894345). Original Rags was an early ragtime medley for piano and was the first of Scott Joplin's rags to appear in print, in early 1899, preceding his Maple Leaf Rag by half a year.Scott Joplin (November 24, 1868 – April 1, 1917) was an American composer and pianist. Joplin achieved fame for his ragtime compositions and was dubbed the King of Ragtime. During his brief career, he wrote 44 original ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. One of his first and most popular pieces, the Maple Leaf Rag, became ragtime's first and most influential hit, and has been recognized as the archetypal rag.Joplin grew up in a musical family of railway laborers in Texarkana, Arkansas, and developed his own musical knowledge with the help of local teachers. While in Texarkana, Texas, he formed a vocal quartet and taught mandolin and guitar. During the late 1880s he left his job as a railroad laborer and travelled the American South as an itinerant musician. He went to Chicago for the World's Fair of 1893, which played a major part in making ragtime a national craze by 1897.Publisher: Theoria Music PublishingWebsite: https://sheetmusicmarket.com

Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.1069664 Composed by Gary Noland. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Ragtime. Full Performance. Duration 892. Freeland Publications #3238281. Published by Freeland Publications (A0.1069664). Duration: 14'52 (1989). Computer-driven Yamaha Disklavier performance. One of my more famous pieces. Its historic premiere at Pacifica Radio (KPFA) in Berkeley on 4 October, 1991 to inaugurate their new facility is included in Nicolas Slonimsky's book Music Since 1900. It has been reviewed and written about extensively. Here is what some reviewers have said:4 OCTOBER 1991: KPFA radio in Berkeley, California, dedicates its newly constructed, two-story broadcast facility at 1929 Martin Luther King Jr. Way with a live satellite broadcast … works on the inaugual program, produced and narrated by KPFA Music director Charles Amirkhanian, included … Grande Rag Brilliant [sic] by Gary NOLAND, a 15-minute rag introducing KPFA’s new Yamaha Disklavier grand piano, featuring fugues, frozen grace-notes to produce tone clusters, and a lengthy passage in which the music modulates up and down a half-tone each measure (the turntable change of speed effect) …-Nicolas Slonimsky, Music Since 1900               ...remarkable stuff...-Max Morath, ragtime composer and pianist             … smashing and extremely difficult piano rag, … which is not distracted by the modulation-per-minute insanity of this beautiful and disorienting music … an exceedingly difficult composition by Berkeley composer Gary Noland, … the Grande Rag Brillante, Op. 15, was written in a modified turn-of-the-Century style and has never been performed successfully by a human pianist.  It features something Mr. Noland calls the 'record-player-turntable-change-of-speed-effect.'  In certain sections, each successive measure modulates up a half step into the next key signature, providing a mind-bending spiraling of focus which is truly breathtaking … spectacular… -Charles Amirkhanian, Folio (KPFA program guide)              ...The Impossible Rag...-Oakland Tribune             ...perfectly simulates a piano roll mistracking and continually changing keys...-Dick Zimmerman, Rag Times             ...masterpiece!...We recommend Mr. Noland's music for anybody who desires the witty and unexpected approach to the Ragtime idiom.-L. Ich hoffe, Ihr Weg wird leichter....-Ladislav Kupkovic, Czech-born composer residing in Germany                     Sort of like it ... electronicized ... ; then it becomes a real period piece, like Richard Taruskin’s theory about current HIP practitioners ...-William Bolcom, Pulitzer prize winning composer.             ...Gary Noland's music is complex, technically daunting stuff....'Grande Rag Brillante'... seems to be meant as an excercise in psychedelic ragtime piano, full of extremely fast passages, confusing modulations, and bizzare dissonance....-Butch Thompson, The Mississippi Rag              ...KPFA Music Director Charles Amirkhanian plans to use the new Disklavier.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1417986 Composed by Louis Spohr. Arranged by Amanda Tero. Christian,Religious,Sacred. Score. 9 pages. Amanda Tero #999537. Published by Amanda Tero (A0.1417986). Experience a new take on the classic All Things Bright and Beautiful with this intermediate piano solo sheet music. Great for church performances or recitals, this piece includes vibrant chords and a touch of Impressionistic flair. The intermediate piano solo of All Things Bright and Beautiful starts with a gentle and reflective first verse, transitions into a fuller second verse, and then moves to a rich third verse that echoes the style of Impressionist music.I arranged All Things Bright and Beautiful intermediate piano solo in a modern style with a lot of seventh chords and hints of dissonance to add depth instead of being simplistic. It progresses from a rhythmically simple first verse into a more developed second verse then builds with a modulation and sixteenth notes for the third verse before returning to a serene setting similar to the introduction. For church services, recitals, and spring/summer music events, All Things Bright and Beautiful intermediate piano solo will capture the listeners and give them a new experience with a beloved favorite.Similar in level to most Level 3-4 piano curricula and ABRSM Level 4.The basic format of All Things Bright and Beautiful intermediate piano solo is: introduction, verse, interlude, verse, modulation, verse ending.5 pages. Keys of F major and G major.Approx. 3:45 performance time. Musical Elements In All Things Bright and Beautiful intermediate piano solo Sheet Music Keys of F major, G major Time signature: 6/8 Tempo: slow, reflective Tempo change midway Note values: dotted half notes, dotted quarter notes, dotted eighth notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes Note reading: right hand treble clef F3 to D6, left hand bass clef D2 to F5, treble clef B3 to B4 Ledger lines (up to 3 lines) Left hand in treble clef (4 measures) Fermatas Ties Practice Tips for All Things Bright and Beautiful intermediate piano solo Sheet Music Remember that 6/8 has 2 beats (6 pulses). This will help the music from sounding plodding and flow smoother. This arrangement calls for a lot of expression and fluctuation in tempo and dynamics. Add a lot of feeling as you play. The tempo change at m46 needs to be prepared in mm 44-45. While there is a crescendo, I like to think of it more as adding depth and broadness than volume alone in preparation for the left hand jumping to sixteenth notes. While I like the sixteenth notes to sound rushing, don’t “rush†them. Play them at a tempo that is comfortable under your fingers.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1000329 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, Paul Eber, and Steve Boudreau. Arranged by Steve Boudreau. 20th Century,Jazz,Sacred. Score. 2 pages. Steve Boudreau #6681051. Published by Steve Boudreau (A0.1000329). The Bach Chorales are ultimate examples of melodies creating harmonies, the parts coming together to form a whole. They are also great examples of a musician taking a melody and making a new arrangement of it, like jazz musicians do today. This piece is a combination of two chorale melodies that Bach arranged, originally based on hymns by 16th-century composer Paul Eber. For context, Bach set the melody around 200 years after it was written, and I re-worked the melodies with my own harmonies nearly 300 years after that. The first job I had when I moved back to Ottawa from Boston was as a church pianist. At one point there was a two-month stretch where I was in charge of programming the instrumental music we played, and I challenged myself to come up with new arrangements every week- the way Bach would have in his time, just on a much smaller scale. This was a terrific creative outpouring of music for me, and it renewed my enormous respect for the church music community and the work involved. For this piece I took two seemingly unrelated chorales (they are actually from the same Cantata, BWV 127) and attached them, using their distant keys of A Major and F Major to set up an interesting modulation halfway through. I had to actively try out some more modern harmonic progressions to take the overall sound of the piece further away from Bach's version. One of my favourite moments is when you finish the C major resolution and then repeat back into F# Minor at the top for improvising. In the solo piano version this surprising cut doesn't occur unless you take a second pass through the piece, so I encourage you to try repeating the piece even if you don't feel comfortable embellishing or changing anything the second time around.

Amanda Tero #701044. Published by Amanda Tero (A0.1097079). This late beginner/elementary sheet music of We Three Kings takes the student along a journey of melodic interest in D minor. Musical elements in We Three Kings late beginner piano sheet music - Key of D minor - Left hand intervals (harmonic and melodic) - Right hand melody with occasional secondary notes - Basic rhythm (dotted half notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes) - A melodic introduction - Finger numbers - A few ledger lines Teaching tips for We Three Kings sheet music Students love the chorus, where both the right hand and left hand play intervals together. However, some students get too eager and rush through this part. This will lead to a great discussion where fast is not always the solution to exciting parts. #wethreekings #christmaspiano #beginnerpiano #sheetmusic.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.873027 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Sally Whitwell #3867219. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873027). At the end of July 2016, I was in my hometown Canberra for a job interview. I was sick as a dog with laryngitis for the interview and audition. Imagine me trying to take a choir rehearsal with no voice? It was never going to happen for me and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself. Halfway back to Sydney on the bus, I get a text from my dear friend Emma. I don’t remember the exact words, but the gist of it was No easy way to say this. We lost Jeff today. Jeff being Emma’s beloved husband and all round awesome human. It was truly devastating. I didn’t know what to do. I felt terribly guilty for thinking of myself and my employment failure all day instead of thinking of Emma and Jeff, even though that was completely irrational. Didn’t want to call because I knew she’d have enough stuff to deal with. Couldn’t turn around cos Public Transport. Had lost the ability to formulate sentences because in that situation, there are no words. So I fell back into the place where I express most clearly. Music. And into my native habitat, the piano. Passacaglia came flowing out very quickly. I hardly stopped to edit. Normally I would try to plan a composition a bit, so that it’s structurally sound. I didn’t do that but somehow it just emerged fully formed.  I sent it to Emma who asked if I could come and perform it at the memorial service. But I couldn’t make it to the memorial. And you know what the saddest thing is? I can’t even now remember why, which means it can’t have actually been that important. Instead I created an electronic file of the piece, with more sounds than just piano. I hope it worked ok. Emma told me later that after the funeral when she suddenly found herself alone, she just played it over and over again on repeat.  So I guess it did its job, but now it’s ready to make its own way in the world in its original version for solo piano. I hope it can bring some solace to others in grief

Published by Amy Hao (A0.1163971). Transposed up one half step to E minor from Eb minor for much more enjoyable piano playing. Octaves were avoided in the right hand to allow for easier execution of the melody, especially for smaller hands.  The arrangement opens up to a serene and barren harmonic landscape but quickly the harmonies become more thick and lush. At measure 10, the bass opens up and the harmonies come cascading in.This arrangement maintains fidelity with the original song with the entire dubstep segment transcribed at rehearsal marking B. At Rehearsal marking C, The melody passes between the thumbs of both hands as left hand also maintains a strong bass and the right hand sings out with the electric guitar part! (I couldn't find any other arrangement that included the electric guitar part, which was strange as it's a dominant part of the song.)At E, enjoy the lush harmonies again, and at F, let your heart sing out for the last time before fading away at the end of the piece.

Friends shouldn't just hang out in fair weather, so here is All Weather Friends, a gentle swing waltz ideal for established intermediate players at about the Grade 4-5 standard (ABRSM).The melody and accompaniment is based upon a classic jazz waltz rhythm, so to get into the feel of this piece, you may find it useful to first practice clapping this rhythm:Remember that the quaver eighth notes are swung. The trick with this piece is to let the melody sing out above the jazz waltz accompaniment, so keep an ear on the melody at all times. In bar 21, the semiquaver 16th notes can be played a little faster than written, which will create more of a 'turn' ornament. Have a listen to the performance recording clip (above) at about halfway through to get the idea. This jazz waltz piano sheet music provides excellent practice for working on phrasing and sustain pedal technique. Occasionally, you may find a couple of hand position changes that risk disrupting the flow of the melodic phrase. In these instances, try a touch of sustain pedal to smooth out the transition. An example of this can be found in bar 31.After the repeated opening melody, the middle section moves into the key of G minor, featuring a rising arpeggio-based accompaniment with sustain pedal. There is a lot of quaver eighth-note movement in this section, so be sure to keep this rhythm smoothly swinging in the usual triplet manner:This middle section reaches a crescendo at bar 37 with a rippling chord effect between both hands. Try experimenting with different ways of splitting up these chords - you could ripple up from the left hand to the right hand, or try rippling both hands at the same time. Stick with whatever sounds good to you! After a poco rall the original melody returns via a D.C. al Coda.
