The original melody was composed by the classical composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and adapted for the film a century later. The present version, in a way, restores the music to the purely instrumental character of Tchaikovsky's original: a melodic waltz for piano. This tune was extraordinary popular in the pianist's childhood. Later in life he returns to this music and produces a version of this melody from a mature perspective.
