Faure Pavane in F Sharp Minor Op.50 Arranged for Solo Piano is my arrangement of this beautiful work by Gabriel FaurƩ with that wonderful melody that is haunting, ethereal and memorable. The Pavane was first performed in 1888 in its orchestral version, with a version with choir appearing a few days later. The dotted notes give the famous melody a lovely sense of movement and lilt and the harmonies are romantic and nostalgic, and has made this piece so popular and well loved, and has inspired Pavanes by other composers including Debussy and Ravel. Faure's harmonies move from familiar places with a development section that eventually emerges in A major which feels like alien territory. Nevertheless the harmonies are beautiful, comforting and nostalgic. There are a few deceptive cadences including the B dominant 7th chord near the conclusion before a return to the tonic in F Sharp Minor. This piece is wonderful to play and listen to. Enjoy!
