Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1200229 By Skeeter Davis. By Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop,Rock,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Timothy Stapay #799031. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1200229). An arrangement of The End Of The World,  a song covered by many famous artists. includingThe Carpenters; thanks to the phenomenal singing of Karen Carpenter.  The End of the World was written by composer Arthur Kent and lyricist Sylvia Dee, who often worked as a team. The Carpenters (officially known as Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials. Karen possessed a powerful singing voice, and close miking brought out many nuances in her performances.  Richard arranged their music to take advantage of this, though Karen had a three-octave vocal range.  Richard's work with Karen was influenced by the music of Les Paul, whose overdubbing of the voice of wife and musical partner Mary Ford allowed her to be used as both the lead and harmony vocals.[6] By multi-tracking, Richard was able to use Karen and himself for the harmonies to back Karen's lead. The overdubbed background harmonies were distinctive to the Carpenters, but it was the soulful, engaging sound of Karen's lead voice that made them so recognizable.  Record executive Mike Curb said it was Karen's voice that took the Carpenters above straight pop music into pop rock.   She was known as a one take wonder and could deliver a strong performance on the first attempt.Richard Carpenter was the creative force behind the Carpenters' sound. An accomplished keyboard player, composer and arranger, music critic Daniel Levitin called him one of the most gifted arrangers to emerge in popular music.  The duo's smooth harmonies were not in step with contemporary music, which was dominated by heavy rock.  Instead, the Carpenters strove for a rich and melodic sound, along the same vein as the Beach Boys and the Mamas & the Papas, but with greater fullness and orchestration including frequent use of small string and horn sections and introspective lyrics centred around relationships.  Richard also admired the musicianship and arranging skills of Frank Zappa, and the two briefly met backstage at the Billboard Forum in 1975.End Of The World: Lyrics:Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore?Don't they know it's the end of the world?'Cause you don't love me any moreWhy do the birds go on singing? Why do the stars glow above?Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when I lost your love[Bridge]I wake up in the morning and I wonderWhy everything's the same as it wasI can't understand, no, I can't understandHow life goes on the way it doesWhy does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry?Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you said goodbyeWhy does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry?Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you

Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1398436 By Bobby Darin. By Albert Lasry, Charles Trenet, and Jack Lawrence. Arranged by Tobi A Crawford. Contemporary,Jazz. Score (Chords/Lyrics). 7 pages. Tobi Crawford #981711. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1398436). This arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson and Sara Gazarek improvise on ballads for inspiration.

Small Ensemble Harpsichord,Organ,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.913678 Arranged by Clay Boland, Jr. Folk,Traditional. Score and parts. 56 pages. BOLAND MUSIC LLC, P.O. BOX 493, CARBONDALE, CO 81623 #6880017. Published by BOLAND MUSIC LLC, P.O. BOX 493, CARBONDALE, CO 81623 (A0.913678). The piano scores used for the original sheet music of these folk songs, hymns, and spirituals of the 1800’s were purposely made simple in order to sell as many copies as possible. The idea being that if someone in every family could read the most basic piano score, then the rest of the family could gather around the piano (usually an inexpensive upright) and sing along in the days before records, cassette tapes, CD’s, Radio, Television, iPods, YouTube etc. Nowadays, the few people who can sight-read at the piano are more musically literate, often being able to read and play classical compositions by Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. They, therefore, deserve more interesting and rewarding arrangements of these wonderful musical treasures of the 1800’s. Furthermore, since these arrangements for piano and voice can also be played as piano solos, the piano scores are designed to be of enjoyable musical interest on their own; that is, orchestrated for the piano as if they were sketches for an ensemble of instruments. These arrangements can also be considered theatrical improvisations on the original sheet music. Following the best improvisational guidelines, they are based on 1) the implications of the title; 2) the meaning and words of the lyrics; 3) the melody; & 4) the harmonic pattern. For example: Oh, Susanna! is obviously a humorous nonsense song and is therefore arranged to sound carefree, jaunty, and joyful. Also, since the singer refers to my banjo on my knee, the piano arrangement imitates the sound of a banjo as it is played for singing and dancing, strumming its rhythmic way through the simple harmonic changes. You can see and hear the music for most of these contemporary arrangements on Sheet Music Plus and some also on YouTube. And if you wish to play and/or sing along alone or with your friends or family, please do so. Happy time travel!!!

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1495488 By Damien Gauci. By Damien Gauci. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Damien Gauci #1072005. Published by Damien Gauci (A0.1495488). Whiskers and Pippin had left the abandoned house behind, but they carried with them something far more valuable than anything they could have found within its dusty walls—a new friendship. As they journeyed through the woods, they discovered that they had more in common than just their fur colour. Their shared curiosity led them to explore new paths, while their cautious natures kept them safe from danger. Every rustle of the leaves, every flicker of movement in the underbrush, became an adventure when they were together.Day after day, Whiskers and Pippin would meet at the edge of the forest, eager to explore each other’s favourite spots. Whether it was a hidden grove full of the sweetest acorns or a quiet stream perfect for reflection, they found joy in sharing these special places with each other. The once lonely woods now felt alive with the warmth of their companionship. They would chase each other up trees, playfully darting between branches, and when the day grew late, they would sit side by side, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The fear and hesitation that once filled their first encounter was now just a distant memory. In its place was a deep bond, forged through shared experiences and a mutual understanding. Whiskers and Pippin might have been cautious, but together, they found the courage to explore a world that felt much less daunting with a friend by their side. And so, from that day on, they were inseparable—two squirrels who had found in each other a lifelong companion, proving that sometimes, the best adventures begin when you least expect them.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.941029 Composed by Joshua Allen. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Joshua Allen Music #3491375. Published by Joshua Allen Music (A0.941029). Weekend Sonatina for solo piano features two movements: I. Saturday and II. Sunday.I. Saturday is light and frolicking, the beginning of the weekend where exciting possibilities await. Contrasts in staccato and legato contrast the two primary themes of this small sonata form movement. A brief Beethoven-esque development leads to a recapitulation and a light-hearted conclusion.II. Sunday features a leisurely descending chromatic theme in the left hand against a simple, pensive melody in the right. After an accompanimental variation of the theme and a brief inversion of the chromatic line against a secondary theme, the piece draws to a close and the listener can hear the sun setting as the weekend slowly ends. From start to finish, Weekend Sonatina is close to 4 minutes in length. Each movement can stand alone or be performed together. The chromaticism in the left hand, stylistic variations, and ranges covered in each hand make this piece suitable for the advancing intermediate to advanced student.

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1087984 Composed by Eamon Mukhopadhyay. Contemporary. Score. 31 pages. Eamon Mukhopadhyay #692177. Published by Eamon Mukhopadhyay (A0.1087984). These three pieces are to mimic studies of voicing and touch through lyrical forms. Each specific BPM marking in the tempo is intentionally preceded with ossia rather than ca.. This is to emphasize complete tempo freedom for the performer. The BPM markings are simply given as an initial baseline, showing the general tempo that the composer would perform these pieces at. Neither of the three pieces finish with a triad. Instead, they end with some form of extended harmony, whether it be through a chord or arpeggio. Neither the specific meaning of the piece nor the method to play the piece is included in the piece descriptions following this sentence, as those choices are specific to the performer. Nocturne in A Major (Op. 1 No. 1) uses both contemporary and traditional harmonic concepts, with add9 chords and extended harmonies integrating further color into the piece. Much material of Winter Landscapes in E-Flat Minor (Op. 1 No. 2) is built upon a simple four-note motif (in regards to scale degrees, the motif follows the pattern of 1-7-2-1). To note - this piece never resolves to the traditional E-Flat minor triad. Lastly, Tribute in D major (Op. 1 No. 3), similar to the other two pieces (of the Op. 1 set), uses multiple forms of extended harmonies through chords and arpeggios, such as add9 and dominant thirteenth harmony.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.697678 Composed by Robert Lowry. Arranged by Sandy McIntire. Country,Easter,Film/TV,Instructional,Sacred. Score. 6 pages. Sandy McIntire #6348197. Published by Sandy McIntire (A0.697678). Shall We Gather at the River? is a popular American hymn published at the end of the Civil War by Robert Lowry and still popular today. Lowry took his inspiration from a crystal clear river with water of life described in the Book of Revelations, and it has also become connected with the custom of baptism, particularly in rivers. A number of American movies in the 20th century, including Stagecoach, Tobacco Road, and Wagon Master, have also featured this hymn. This arrangement for Intermediate Piano solo in the key of G major includes an interlude from As a Tree Beside the Water by Alfred H. Ackley, a British composer, and is included in McIntire's series, Gospel Piano Classics. Other hymns in this series include Sunshine in My Soul, We've a Story to Tell to the Nations, and This Is My Father's World, all available at this site.

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.982538 Composed by William Grosvenor Neil. Contemporary. Score. 50 pages. TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC #6709495. Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC (A0.982538). Program Notes: At the Edge of the Body’s Night (2008) for piano and digital acoustics is a setting of Seven Poems by the late poet, Mark Strand. These poems intrigued me with their potent brevity and mysterious symbolism. I found in their riddle-like form a concise emotional message, ideal for creating short melodic themes and inspiring fantastic piano music. When I recorded Mark’s voice reading the poems, I knew that his recitation would be part of the compositional resources for the piece. His resonant voice, enhanced by the audio editing process, provided a powerful context for the musical interpretation of his words. The addition of a soprano voice (Ashley Parker) in the digital landscape alludes to the traditional art song setting of poems. and her siren-call voice recalls the female muse that I imagined inspired the poet in writing his words. The piano music guides the listener throughout this fantastic journey of sound and music reflecting on the meaning and character of the poems and driving the dream-like narrative forward. Performance of the digital acoustic: Each of the six movements (I & II are combined) for piano are accompanied by a digital audio landscape as part of the performance. At the beginning of each section, a cue is notated in the score to start the audio wave file. It is recommended that a high fidelity audio play back system be employed in the recital hall or performance space. The sound system could be interfaced with a laptop computer or iPad operated by the pianist using a foot pedal similarly used with iPads supporting a digital part or it could be executed during the performance by a technician. The rental of the digital acoustic files includes a Key File license from Qlab that TheComposerStudio will email to be uploaded to a PC or Mac laptop computer for the duration of the rental. The uploaded software will ensure that the files are executed during a performance with ease and accuracy. The rental agreement also includes support from TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC from the time of rental through the performance of the piece. Duration: ca. 24 mins. www.williamneil.net  www.thecomposerstudio.com    for more info:  thecomposerstudio@gmail.com

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1031907 Composed by Francisco Martín-Quintero. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 27 pages. Francisco Martín-Quintero #3685863. Published by Francisco Martín-Quintero (A0.1031907). ON THE KEYS (INMANENCIA III) Chords that tremble because their notes trill, tremble, move fast to not perish, complex arpeggios rising and falling as sound blasts, brief but wide melodies, just three or four notes, dissonant, quasi solemn, apparent scales ascending, descend, without getting anywhere, textures at last with a static vocation, looking for its instant, its present... Every texture wants to stay. The horizontal occurs only because time passes, not because the sound aspires to happen, it seeks its moment by recreating itself, renouncing what will come for what it is, the transcendent for the immanent ... On the Keys occurs from the instrument's keyboard. That title, a frequent indication in the current scores to return to the interpretation on the keyboard, is my way of protesting the over-exploitation of the interpretation of the harp and other surfaces of the piano, my way of being bold in this 21st century. The work is dedicated to the italian maestro Cosimo Colazzo.
