By Barbara Arens. By Barbara Arens. Arranged by Barbara Arens. Blues,Children,Contemporary,Instructional,Jazz. Score. 30 pages. Barbara Arens #999451. Published by Barbara Arens (A0.1417909).

Inspired by my youngest piano pupils, I've had a marvellous time writing imaginative little animal-themed pieces they can have fun with. I especially had a great time thinking up the titles: An Ant-eater dancing a Jig; 2 Pigs discussing Lunch; A Snake dreaming of Belly Dancing; 2 Badgers taking a Midnight Walk; Centipede considering Tickling Someone; A Cat totally ignoring You........ various styles have been used - several jazzy pieces, with swung quavers/8ths, but lots of descriptive pieces for small hands. For Initial - Grade 3 / Early Elementary-Late Elementary.

By Jeff Bjorck. By Richard Storrs Willis. Arranged by Jeff Bjorck. 19th Century,Advent,Christian,Christmas,Traditional. Score. 6 pages. Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck #880891. Published by Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck (A0.1290172).

Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this classic Christmas carol appears on his album/CD The Wondrous Gift: A Pure Piano Christmas. On this album, Bjorck juxtaposes this piece with Silent Night because he feels that musically, the two carols are close relatives. His arrangement evokes images of a deeply dark sky as the backdrop for a myriad of gleaming stars--the setting for the angels' announcement to the shepherds of Peace on earth, goodwill toward men, from Heaven's all-gracious King. This arrangement is especially suited for Christmas Eve services, especially those held late at night.

Program Note/Poem

Cuban Gold

White mist rising from a broad field of green,

Sun breaking the horizon

then rose smoke curling into the sky.

Steel ringing in rhythm to voices, the sound of

metal slicing through wood

in all its sweetness.

A hot brilliant mid-day sun on the street.

Ducking into the doorway, then tuning the piano.

It must be a special day.

The clock and church bell sounding in unison,

the end of Tuesday’s labor.

Humidity saturates El Tropicano,

with the upright piano and a half-glass of amber.

The piano montuno and bass tumbao,

along with a half-complete catch of drums

telegraph out the rhythms for the Casino dancing.

Tall ivory women and shorter browner men in white hats,

moving across the floor. ‘Still time for one more dance.

Old Havana at Midnight: Cuban Gold.
