THE LAST MY FLOWER (the wolf and the witch)

I look at my last flower

It loses its scentand I do not know what to do

I protect you with warmthof this other story I have to tell

creatures alone and desperate

many scars heal

a witch and a wolf

do not know yet

that their destinies are to merge

and starts this magical storysweet

as ancient fable

in a forest with no place and no age

out of touch

and the time is stopped and does not move a breath

and the heart, explodes and skip a beat

and look you recognize

like not having never lost

and the wolf that is injured

a white rose in red has turned

He is bleeding along with drops of pain

his red eyes burning with love

and the witch instead hides

because she isn't beautiful and it is not important

nobody in the world has never belonged

and a caress he never touched

she care and caresses the soul

he looks at her and his anger dominates

and one year only lasts a moment

lost in eternity

and the wolf tells tales

and the witch makes magic potions

and exchange promises useless

that the night  guard

and she will dance

will dance naked

and the wolf with his heart on his

sleevelying by the fire that lights up,

so free

unobstructed

and are reflected in the magic lake

and do not feel that cold shiver...

not last, do not you feel it too?cold around  us

Abracadabra !! from caterpillar to butterfly

Alakazam !! and I too am beautiful

do not you wonder how and why

I started to talk to me

snow fallsbut we are in August

and there is nothing

that you find a place

this my music speaks for it self

this is the strangest tale that is

I stop here

It will end well

I can not tell

the end of a love

that is not written yet

I stop here

It will end well

in a vacuum and the absence

these days my

silence and inconstancy in your feeling

sthe flower dies already

go wolf go

stop thinking about her

from your pack you will need to return

and then runs away

witch will

if you want to transform

changes role

an actress who artand

you will have new flowers

day step into the dark caverns of regret

Mix them with potions and transform everything into tears

like a cat in the night

I try the food

in the trashno sun,

no light

no god here that help me

body and spirit dentedas

a glass stuckinside

my poor heart

the memory of a love

He never really lived

so alive in the mind

is my animal instinct

that makes me ache

while another dream diesthe

in between  my  hidden  truth

THEATER

If you want to transform your reality

If you want another life

The theater is here

Choose the character

What will you interpret

Follow your script

and you will not be wrong

A blue curtain

The lights are down

And music begins

An ox eye

That will turn on

The scene lights up

Offstage, me

Look out for my turn

my legs tremble

Increase the beat

People in the audience

Silent is

And thet expects to live

The story you will tell theyr

And everything is possible

I grab the moment

I commit myself to the utmost

There is rhythm, there is energy

There is grief, there is joy

Here everything is fake but there is truth

And fate here, nothing can

Because history already has its plot and its ending

We will incarnate here

Vices and virtues

In the comedy you will lose

You will breathe with us

The magic that's here tonight

Live in this atmosphere

Trash and a bit surreal

It will involve you

With its cardboard trees, canvas palaces

Paper skies, foam lakes

Tears drawn on blood red cheeks

Imperfect moons and sunshine that does not shine

It's all a theater this my life

I play more roles

In prose or poetry

We are all actors

In this reality

Browse your script

It will surprise you

Finished the show

I bow for you

Applause and music

A moment and I already find my self

The usual Monica

I feel a bit  Pierrot

Between joy and tears

But it went well and then tomorrow replies

Live  more lives  for  never die

Sweet illusion that will cull me

And it  will accompany me

Even out of this scene

If I recite  good ,you will know

Unsuspecting sides of me

I'll be nice

O arrogant and bad

A witch or a diva

Heroes of a time gone

Who will I ever be?

and how Pirandello wrote

I’m  none and one hundred thousand

I interpret myself

And it's never good the first

I'm not convincing in my dirty clothes

And I change the script bugs

Of my days a little shaken

Absurd Theater

It turns into a silent film

And crying out loud

In this desolate stage

If you are looking for an identity

An interruption of reality

Write your script or improver

Get on that stage and you'll be what you want ....

Music and song composed by me

                                                        ALL  AS  BEFORE

Tired flower bends

the head photos in carved marble

sad smell of the past along your tree-lined avenue

how much peace in this place

where you stand hidden

cobwebs on your time and the scent of regret

while I touch your beautiful face

I ask myself who decided that your time would stop and that for you all would be over

I, minstrel of my time, tell a thousand stories

chronicles written in pencil real-life stories

story now finished my fingers still drive,

find notes and then the enchantment to disperse them in the wind

there was a king in love, by a bewitched spell,

with the madwoman his queen and everything comes back as before

there tucked away in a corner

 There is a pathetic clown

Look closer: it’s a little girl and everything comes back as before

You clown what would you do?

You want to approach the king and then you want to tell him of her polluted heart

but him, he does not want to be touched and you have to amuse her

smile and do not tire continue your ... dance ...

in the void and silence

suspended in time

for your queen and everything comes back as before

 before your leap

do you want to fly high

mixed-up Icarus you have fallen into emptiness

the beating of the heart makes too much noise

rumbles here within into emptiness and silence

no, do not love me,

now or ever and hang on till the ultimate pain

she'll pressure you and insinuate herself into your mind and end by doing you harm

but I invisible to your eyes and I want to hug you,

you do not want

I would like to tell you what you do not know of me

and then on swings of fantasy

 my hand close to yours

we'll soar to the heights where she is not there

if you want I will reinvent myself for you

And I may please you ,I know

but with your eyes you’ve already answered me and hidden I'll go ..

The winter does not end

the cold seems eternal

here the sun dies ,effaces itself and then disappears

Once upon a time there was or still is, who knows

a minstrel that no longer has a court

and he belongs to nobody, and no one will stop him

while closing the door ,the king will delete him

abracadabra here in my Kingdom

nothing caresses, no kiss of goodby

my name in history was written in pencil

to be able to delete from a faded page

the mind has its woodworm and you can not heal it

past, present and she who reigns everywhere

pages of your life flowing through my fingers

for a king, tired and sick,

who has not had a happy ending

the spell is broken and now the veil has fallen

regret makes its way into him and the minstrel would approach him

puppet in love ,now disconnected from your wires

seek your child and there is nothing like before

there is the sunset in your eyes

but I'm here by your side

a daddy and his little girl and there is nothing like before .... .....

the be.

Composed by Terry Gilkyson. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Comedy,Film/TV,Jazz. Score. 2 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #869433. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1277927).

About the arrangement
(See also (
PopJazzKeys.com/The-Bare-Necessities)
This is a relatively easy to play solo piano jazz arrangement of THE BAR NECESSITIES. The song is a traditional jazz tune made famous in the Walt Disney movie THE JUNGLE BOOK.
The video and audio recording I posted here features me playing the short version of my arrangement. When played as written (with all the repeats) it is almost 4 minutes long.

What's cool about this arrangement is that you can easily add a bass player and even an entire rhythm section while playing it the same way as you would in a solo performance!

Who this arrangement is best suited for

I think everyone who likes the song except perhaps advanced jazz pianists will have fun learning and playing this arrangement.
I arranged this piece originally with my younger piano students in mind, who have smaller hands than most adults. That’s why there are no large intervals or big jumps in the left hand. Something generally found in ragtime and early jazz piano styles. This means that my arrangement is perfectly suited for pianists with smaller hands. Of course pianists with large hands (like myself) can play it too (ha-ha!).
I think it is also a great piece for pianists who want to familiarize themselves with playing jazz piano. And since I wrote out every note and articulation, they can play along with the recording and hopefully pick up the traditional jazz feel along the way.
Although the arrangement is not very difficult, it poses several challenges for the inexperienced pianist, as explained later.

How I arranged it

As I already explained above, there are no large intervals or big jumps in the left hand to be found. Instead, I focused more on polyphonic arranging techniques, in both hands. I also used guide tones and inversions.
The left hand imitates the accompaniment style of a traditional jazz guitar or banjo player with added half time bass figures that are typically played by a tuba or upright bass an octave lower.

Tips for how to learn this arrangement

When I teach this song to my students I strongly recommend to them to listen to the original version and my recording a lot, rather than explaining to them how swinging eighth notes and jazz articulation work. By the way, there are a few bars where you hear me playing straight eighths on the recording (as indicated in the sheet music).
I decided to add articulations so that pianists who have not a lot of experience with playing jazz will find it easier to play it with the appropriate “touchâ€. It's a good idea to check those out.
Should you not be familiar with playing polyphonic passages with one hand, you might want to practice very slowly at first and attempt to balance the different voices appropriately.
Listening to the recording will also help with discovering dynamic possibilities. I didn’t want to clutter up the sheet music with dynamic markings, so listening to the recording is really the only way to figure out what dynamics I had in mind.

The Dreaming Sea was my first paid composition commission, a piece I wrote in April 2020. For the composition commission, my author friend Sterling Wisniewski requested me to score a short story of his, with the score I provided being expected to tell the story of the words through music and accompany original artwork. His short story is included as follows:

A cardboard boat sifts the surface of the sea. A little girl,eyes closed, arms wide and crowned with a paper hat, stands at the front of the deck. Unsinkable - that's what she was. Her imagination bounced the boat on the tension of theworld, almost like it wasn't there. Her eyes were closed, yet she saw everything.
On shore, a crowd of dirty sailors went about their work. Nasty mouths swore and harsh fists carried their cargo to their strong, dirty boat. A boy, no taller than a barrel, was in the midst of the buff shoulders and fit forearms. He peaked between the muscle mountains.
He saw her. Eyes closed and arms wide, sailing away from the Sun and into the appearing Moon. The wind flapped her hair like the sail of a boat. The boy pried between the men and ran to the end of the dock, stuck his flat hand over his forehead to see. The boy could've sworn that she saw him. He could've sworn the boat swooped in a foot from his face. He could've sworn he heard her giggle. If anything, he thought he knew she saw him.
The boy's father, the largest of all the men, wearing a real sailor's hat, gripped the boy's shoulder, spun him away from view of the cardboard boat, and without a word dragged him to the solid wooden ship in front of them. The robust crew pulled ropes and pushed out to set sail towards the setting Sun in the west.
The boy soon slipped out of his father's grip and ran to the edge of the boat. Standing on his tiptoes, he hovered his eyes over the dock. There she was - eyes closed and arms wide, the wind flowing through her hair while her cardboard boat skipped the seas like a stone. he could've sworn she was thinking about him. he could've sworn he would see her again. He could've&n.

By Nat Cole With N. Riddle Orch. By Mel Torme and Robert Wells. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Christmas,Holiday,Jazz. Score. 4 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #913724. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1325497).

Solo Piano Arrangement By Thomas Gunther
The Christmas Song is maybe the most popular Christmas Song in the USA. Some know it as Chestnuts Roasted On An Open Fire or Merry Christmas to You.
The melody is absolutely beautiful, and the chord changes super interesting. I especially like Nat King Cole's version, which is in Db major. To make it easier for intermediate piano players I wrote my piano solo arrangement in C major instead. It is still challenging  enough.
The sheet music will be available for purchase at 2pm Chicago time on Nov 27.
About The Arrangement
The arrangement is written in jazz ballade style. It doesn't swing. I includes a fun double time improvisation section though which I made up on the spot during the second B section when I recorded the song. It is in latin style.
The arrangement can be performed with or without improvisation. Should you be a jazz pianist you could use the included chord symbols to make up your own improvisation.
About The Sheet Music
The sheet music is the exact transcription of my recording, including the improvisation part. (You can listen to it and see me perform in the video below.)
The sheet music contains jazz chord symbols and plentiful of articulations as well as some dynamic markings.
How This Arrangement Came About
May arrangement is heavily based on the Nat King Cole version. I love the ballade feel and the beautiful chord substitutions he uses in the orchestration. First I simply played along with his version in Db major. This helped me to figure out the harmony. Next I start thinking about the accompaniment. Now it is time to practice it. Once I have the arrangement figured out I start recording it a few times, listen to each version, iron out the edges. Now it is time to record the entire thing.
Recommendations For Learning The Song
I recommend that you first listen to my performance while reading along in the sheet music.
I always think about fingering and sustain pedal use at the same time when learning a song. Smart use of the sustain pedal can really make it much easier to play.
Is This Arrangement For You?
This solo piano arrangement is for every pianist who loves The Christmas Song. It doesn't matter would kind of pianist you are.
The arrangement is certainly for intermediate pianists and up. It is also beneficial when you don't have very small hands. Some chords in the left hand require a hand span of a 10th. However, there are ways to get around that by simply rolling the notes with the help of the sustain pedal.

Composer’s Notes

Air Balloon! One vivid memory I have as a child is of the day that a hot air balloon passed over our house and made an emergency landing on the road in front!  It was both terrifying and exhilarating to watch the balloon float past and then land so near by.

Buzzards Circling There is something so calming and restful about watching birds of prey circling in the thermal currents of a summer sky. This piano solo captures the beauty of their flight as they glide so effortlessly through the air.

There’s A Cow In The Garden Eating The Flowers Inspired by the memory of seeing an unexpected cow in the garden! This surreal image is captured in a quirky waltz, as I portray both the absurdity of the moment and the sense of wonder I felt as a child. The final phrase articulates my longing: ‘I wish it would come again’.

Watching The World Go By A short, reflective piece, remembering what it was like to have time to just sit and watch the world go by from my bedroom window.

Autumn Skies A miniature about the beauty of Autumn skies and the poignant sense of loss for a summer gone.

Friends I was fortunate to have several children of my own age living close by. We seemed to be forever making dens, playing out in the street and generally enjoying each other’s company. This piece reflects that sense of well-being.

Snake In The Pond One hot summer I was astonished and scared to see a grass snake cooling off in our garden pond! I watched, both horrified and fascinated, as it rose up from the depths and then disappeared again.

Morning Commute I recollect many mornings stuck in traffic as my Dad took me to school on his way to work. We may not have chatted a lot, but it was always good to be together with my Dad, lost in our own thoughts.

The Witch’s Cottage My siblings and I had a fascination with a small cottage nearby. It was set back from the road in a dark part of the woods and we called it 'the witch's cottage’. Every time we passed, I imagined I heard the distant cackle of the witch and wished I could catch a glimpse of her.

These pieces are written to complement my other collection, Night Time Impressions, which also draw on childhood recollections, particularly of the woods behind the house where I grew up.

Tune: DUKE STREET

Use: Prelude, Postlude

One Sunday my church was singing Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun as the opening hymn. It’s our tradition that the last stanza of a hymn is sung in unison, so that I as the organist can change the harmonization and keep things interesting. Sometimes I know ahead of time what I’m going to do, and sometimes I make it up on the spot.

On this particular morning I planned on being spontaneous. (Can spontaneity be planned?) When we got to the final stanza, I threw on the 16′ pedal reed and went to town.

I don’t know if this is the case for all musicians, but while I’m playing my brain is working on several different levels. Most of these are involved in actually playing the music, but there’s also a running commentary on how things are going. This commentary is usually really boring: It’s going okay. It’s going okay. It’s going okay. Sometimes the messages are more interesting: Uh-oh. She just dropped her mute. I missed that chord; remember to circle it when we’re done. My page turner appears to be on fire.

So: We’re in the final stanza of Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun. Big, majestic hymn. Over a hundred congregants and choir members are enthusiastically singing in unison. I’m leading them from the organ with an improvised accompaniment that involves all of my limbs. It’s fair to say that I was concentrating hard.

Suddenly the commentary part of my brain breaks in: Dude, your feet are totally playing Canon in D. Cool!

Canon in D is the most famous work of Johann Pachelbel, a German composer who preceded Bach by a few decades. It’s overused at weddings, but it’s actually a really good piece of music. The original is for three violins and a basso continuo part, which would usually have been played by harpsichord and cello. In this case, the basso continuo plays the same eight measures again and again throughout the piece. This technique of repetition is called a ground bass. While that’s going on, the violins play several different themes on top of it.

When I was improvising that Sunday, my feet had accidentally wandered into that ground bass part, which happened to fit nicely with the melody we were singing. During the sermon (sorry Pastor!) I started going through the violin themes in my head, seeing if any of them could also match up with the hymn tune. Some of them worked and some didn’t. I decided to write a sort of theme and variations, where the hymn tune appears in various forms. Sometimes it’s played along with one of the violin themes, and sometimes a violin theme serves as an interlude on its own. And except for one passage, the left hand is always playing some version of the basso continuo theme. I also changed the meter from 4/4 to 3/4 to make it more interesting. It culminates in a climax worthy of a king. I hope you enjoy it.

Juan María Solare: Show Me the Path.

piano solo

Neoclassical music. Optimistic, warm, melodic, tranquil.

Show me the path to where?

- Towards self-realisation?

- Towards the roots?

- Towards a happy future?

The reality was much more prosaic: what inspired this title was a mere commercial advertisement that pretended to sell me the path to gaining thousands of followers in a few days. This prompted my sceptical response. It is thus demonstrated that everything, even the banal, can be profitable and an inspiration source.

Show Me the Path [Muéstrenme el sendero]

piano solo

I always enjoy writing something simple but pretty and this piece is exactly that. As with many of my other piano compositions, I enjoy writing them in the style of “soft piano” pieces which you can listen to while you study, work, relax, or anything else. I initially came up with the original motif at the start of the piece which I really liked and expanded it into a full piece. When coming up to the B section I made it too dramatic and it would probably be too distracting for the listener if they were working or studying so I decided to start over with the B section and write something that expanded upon the original motif in a subtle and sweet way.

I am quite pleased with the finished composition, it turned out in a way that I was aiming for from the beginning. As for the title, I sat down after I had finished writing the piece and listened to it a few times and brainstormed some names. I eventually settled on the name that it is now: ‘Some Things Don’t Always Last’ which has a bitter-sweet quality to it. I think it fits quite well with the piece as it’s like a lullaby that comes and goes. A distant memory that is recalled because of an old toy you found or because you drove past your childhood home that you grew up in.

Lyrics:

Time and again I've longed for adventure

Something to make my heart beat the faster
What did I long for? I never really knew
Finding your love I've found my adventure
Touching your hand, my heart beats the faster
All that I want in all of this world is you

[Chorus:]
You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song
You are the angel glow that lights a star
The dearest things I know are what you are
Some day my happy arms will hold you
And some day I'll know that moment divine
When all the things you are, are mine

Composed by Roger Ramirez. Contemporary. Score. 9 pages. Roger Ramirez #62225. Published by Roger Ramirez (A0.1024064).

Water is serene, soothing, calming, but also chaotic, unpredictable, and at times relentless. Follow the story of the song as you are taken on a journey. A personal experience inspired this dynamic piano solo. It begins with a simple motif that depicts looking out over the ocean which is then followed by getting into the water. The next section, also the longest, goes through the process of losing control to the water and the realization of possibly drowning. The frantic section is followed by a contrasting section, which imitates a lost and worn out feeling. This part demonstrates the feeling of helplessness and the acceptance that it might end, but is then followed by a phrase that is repeated in different keys. Finally, the triumphant section plays the previous phrase once more with fuller chords and a key signature, bringing back structure and sanity to this experience. Though, an accidental in this section leaves the feeling that tension may still be in the experience and that not all was fully well.
