There are different technically demanding elements to it, from polyphony (which require great finger independence), to the techniques associated with the Romantic period (like the ability to work the sustain pedal, arpeggios, and playing thick chords). Most of you might know it from the classic movie The Wizard Of Oz, for which it was actually composed (and sung by Judy Garland).I love everything about this song, it’s melody (which is so cleverly based on a descending diatonic stepwise motion during the [A] section), the harmony, and of course the lyrics that inspire us to believe there might actually be more to life than what we are experiencing day in and day out, well worth dreaming about and searching for.ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF LYRICSTo me it is important to study the lyrics of a song before I start arranging it. The lyrics guide me in my search for how I want the arrangement to impact the listener emotionally.

From music notes to words: Inkawu the monkey is very naughty and mischievous. Having spent the morning sitting in the sun while some females searched his fur for fleas, he is now in a hilariously expressive mood. Swinging from the branches of a huge African tree, he mocks everything and everybody around him, mimicking a scornful dance with his weird movements and giving the impression of being a funny clown in a circus. When he comes across a car loaded with passengers on a narrow road between the trees, he jumps straight onto the bonnet of the vehicle, pressing his face on the front window and pulling faces to amuse the surprised audience inside. He grins when they feed him oranges through a small opening of a nearly closed window and refusing to leave, he sits on the bonnet for almost an hour, filling up his tummy and satisfying his taste buds with the juicy citrus fruits. When he finally leaps off the car, he continues his merry ragtime dance until he disappears between the trees..

Rhythmically, Bagatelle explores a seemingly free rhythm at the opening but be sure to count to make sure it does sound free. In the middle section right hand expressive moments contrast with a steady ostinato in the left hand. The pace of the left hand supports the right hand searching for something!Be careful to observe everything that contributes to this little nothing.
