Aye Aye the Lemur is the fifteenth in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled 15 Animal Compositions for Piano and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: Aye Aye the lemur is creeping through the branches of a forest on the island of Madagascar, a ghost-like figure in the light of the silver moon. He stops to tap the claw on his middle finger against a tree trunk, pressing his large ears to it to pick up the sounds of movements from a grub inside. Mimicking the habits of a woodpecker, he slips the middle digit into a hole in the trunk and harpoons a wood-boring insect larva, seizing his prey and devouring it with great enjoyment. Occasionally resting, he spends the rest of the night foraging in the dense canopy of trees and finally, just before the sun is about to rise, he retracts to his comfortable, spherical nest high up among the vines and branches, where he naps all day long..

This piece is inspired by and dedicated to Eli Hansen (2/2/12-12/29/22). I was fortunate to meet Eli relatively early on his journey with neuroblastoma (a childhood cancer that starts in immature nerve cells) when he was the tender age of four. I first got to know him in my profession as an energy healer, sharing the healing “tickles� (as Eli called them), and then evolving into a sweet friendship. Eli’s journey was arduous, yet his strength of spirit, faith, and love were rock solid. This piece is a representation of the emotional peaks and valleys on Eli’s path. There is heaviness, glimpses of hope, and an ultimate glorious transition with the fluttering of angels’ wings. From the collection, Inner Mosaic, by Ann Ruane.

Beinnure is a majestic fortified city located on a mountain summit.  Known for its industrial focus, the city is home to many factories and workshops that produce intricate machinery.  The city's architecture is a sight to behold, with towering spires, intricate carvings, and imposing walls that protect the city from outsiders.  Despite its grandeur, there is a palpable sense of oppression and heaviness that hangs in the air.  The people of Beinnure are often quiet, sullen, and resigned to their work, which is reflected in the slow and steady progression of the machinery they create.  Though the city is bustling with activity, there is a pervasive feeling of stagnation that permeates the streets.  Despite its flaws, Beinnure remains a marvel of human ingenuity and a beacon of industry.
