Composed by Steven H. Boothe. Arranged by Ashley Ivers. Christian,Pop,Sacred. Accompaniment. Duration 255. Boothe Publishing #4737123. Published by Boothe Publishing (A0.1069993).

Just one person doing what he knows is right will set off a chain reaction for the good that will go on and on. Before I arrived at mission age I had to make a lot of decisions about whether or not I wanted to go on a mission. There were so many voices calling out to me. The voices promised me scholarships and fame. The voices questioned my logic. The voices tried to make me doubt my motives and character. The voices ridiculed me and my desires to do good. The voices told me that they loved me, but wouldn't wait for me if I went on a mission. All of those voices were demeaning of me if I went on a mission. They also promised me joy, but only if I decided not to go on a mission. I ultimately decided to go on a mission. By going on a mission I was put in a situation where I could testify of God's gospel truths. Those people hearing the truths had the opportunity to pray to God to find out for themselves if what they had been taught was true. Those people that talked to God in prayer joined the church. Why? Because God answered their prayers. Some of those new members went on missions to other lands converting through the spirit of the Holy Ghost others, who in turn went on missions to other lands. The cycle continues. Just one person doing what he knows is right can set off a chain reaction for the good that will go on and on.

Composed by Dr. Deborah Rambo Sinn, Author. Traditional. Score. 276 pages. Deborah Rambo Sinn at The Underground Conservatory #886807. Published by Deborah Rambo Sinn at The Underground Conservatory (A0.1296630).

Finally, a piano skills book that you don't have to lug around! This 260+ page book fits on your phone or tablet and can be opened in any PDF reader, like Adobe Acrobat or forScore.
Ā
Pocket Piano Proficiency: a revolutionary way to learn the skills you need offers basic piano skills in a new way. Author and veteran piano instructor Deborah Rambo Sinn wanted to find a solution for getting students to learn these solidly and efficientlyĀā€“along with finding a way to combine this with developing excellent aural skills. Ultimately, she sought a way to quickly make these skills relevant to understanding larger concepts of music theory.
Ā
Traditionally, it takes a long time of learning individual skills before a student can grasp how they all work together. Pocket Piano Proficiency flips this model, introducing tasks in chunks of like material. The circle of fifths appears from the first pages, demonstrating connections between keys from the start. The bookā€™s pedagogical organization moves students from the easiest to more complex skills, allowing them to scaffold successfully from one chapter to the next.
Ā
The eBook format allows for a new way of learning these skills that a black and white printed book does not afford. Each page contains several layers of helpful material that can be accessed by zooming in and out. Because only one level of information can be accessed at a time, students need to assimilate information from around the page to successfully complete each task (see video.) Additionally, the use of color cues for tasks further organizes each chapter. As an example, red is used for the simplest keys or most common concepts.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Concert,Graduation,Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 12 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #6712473. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597602).

It probably comes as a surprise to many to know that Beethoven wrote variations on the current British national anthem, as well as on a jingoistic tune sung every year at the BBC Proms. But indeed he did. In 1803 he was approached by George Thomson, a civil servant living in Edinburgh who was passionate about collecting folk songs from his own country. He wanted Beethoven to compose six sonatas on Scottish melodies-a project which never materialized, but which started a business relationship that lasted until 1820. For Thomson, Beethoven completed some 150 arrangements of Scottish, Welsh and Irish folk songs (including Auld lang syne). Towards the end of 1803, he sent him these two sets of variations for piano, saying they werenā€™t too difficult and hoping they would have much success.

Concerning the 7 Variations on ā€˜God save the Kingā€™, WoO78, Beethoven made the comment that he wanted to ā€˜show the English what a blessing they haveā€™ with that tune. We donā€™t really know who wrote it, but it became very popular in 1745 when it started being sung at Drury Lane and Covent Garden to celebrate the putting-down of the Jacobite rising. It travelled over to the Continent where in 1795 it became the royal anthem of Prussia (ā€˜Heil dir im Siegerkranzā€™).

It makes a great theme for variations, and Beethoven has a lot of fun with it. If ever you needed proof of humour in his music, here it is. After some counterpoint in variation 1, he gives us some nimble fingerwork to deal with before an expressive minor-mode variation that can also be played a bit tongue-in-cheek. He changes metre for variation 6, a perky march, and stays in that time signature for variation 7. A lot of the difficulty of this piece depends on the tempo you choose at this point. The coda is inspired: a brief cadenza-like descent of F major broken chords leads us into a solemn return of the theme, but with some piquant and mischievous harmonies. The final allegro brings the work to a bravura conclusion.

Dance of the Lanna is a portrayal of a festival in Northern Thailand; Lanna refers to the people there, and the festival celebrates rebirth of their heritage.Ā  The festival is comprised of several dances depicting events of nature; this piece portrays two of the dances: Dance of the Silk WeaverĀ and Water is Life.Ā  The piece opens with portrayal of expressive Thai flute solo, proceeding to portrayal of Thai string orchestra and the PiNai oboe, leading to fast-paced announcement of dancers, moving into the themes of each dance. The style is slow, dramatic, unique movements, appearance of simplistic (but difficult) dances, using piano techniques unique to the style of Thai music.Ā  The piece was written for a piano student who wanted to portray music of his country on the piano. Composed by John Carbon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 25 pages. John Carbon #3586217. Published by John Carbon (A0.966218).

Composed in 2016, Madeleines is similar to my two sets of Spanish Lessons (1988 and 2001) which are both suites of character pieces for piano inspired by my admittedly limited travel in Spain. Madeleines is inspired by a much earlier hairbrained trip I took to France (and the rest of the Grand Tour) with my sister when I was in college. The title refers to Proust's episode of the madeleine, in which involuntary memory overwhelms the protagonist when he bites into one of these small cakes. I also sometimes experience poignant memories from our fondly remembered trip triggered by various catalysts. The five episodes in this set of pieces attempt to capture the essence of some of these memories. The first piece, MeĢmoire triste dans un cafeĢ (sad memory in a cafeĢ), serves the purpose of a preĢlude. One might conclude that the madeleine is sampled in this location. Il pleut aĢ Brest (It is raining in Brest) evokes memories of the wet weather in Brest, a city in Brittany near the coast. I was curious about this area because, during our travels, we met a boy in Paris with dark and dangerous eyes named FrancĢ§ois (FrancĢ§ois et ses yeux dangereux) who was from that area. In Il pleut the sound of rain alternates with church bells and fog horns (one of the poetic sensations I remember vividly about Brest). The third piece (FrancĢ§ois) is a blend of a barcarolle and a funeral march. I continued to send one-way letters to FrancĢ§ois after we returned and one day the French police called to tell me that he was dead and that they had found one of my letters on his body, which had been tossed into the Seine. They wanted more information, and they revealed that he had been smuggling drugs out of Turkey. I think the next piece, Promenade dans la meĢnagerie de Versailles (Walk in the zoo at Versailles), is tempered by later memories of a trip I took to the zoo at SchoĢˆnbrunn palace near Vienna, the oldest Baroque zoo, which was in a terrible state of decay when I saw it, hence the wistful air. The finale of the set, Madeleine deĢteste les devoirs (Madeleine hates homework) is a bow to the French primer I grew up with, which had as one of its main characters a little girl who I think may have been named Madeleine. I know her father was named FrancĢ§ois. My memories are mixed up, the actual FrancĢ§ois Thibaud is remembered as the inventor of the fast-track method of learning French, which was in vogue when I first studied it in 6th grade. The idea here is that Madeleine, the daughter of FrancĢ§ois, is having a tantrum and playing with her hoops or a bike rather than doing her English homework. --John Carbon

A Ragtime style novelty piano piece with a Bachesque cameo in the middle. I woke up Sunday morning after dreaming about being young and writing hit songs. Unfortunately I couldnā€™t remember any of the amazing music in my dream. Anyway I thought Iā€™d better write something and this was the result. As I hadnā€™t written anything all summer (we had about 3 sunny days ā€“ good for Northern England) I wanted to write something happy but also melancholy with English picnics, cucumber sandwiches and tea! plus the usual traditional weatherā€¦

Nearer, My God, to Thee is a 19th century hymn by Sarah Flower Adams which was allegedly the last song played on the RMS Titanic before the ship sank. The bandmaster of the rescue ship, the RMS Carpathia spoke with survivors who reported they had requested the Titanic bandmaster to play hymns. The hymn they most wanted to hear was Nearer, My God, to Thee.

About the composer: Brenda Dillon is best known for her contributions to the Recreational Music Making movement. In addition to her contributions to the RMM Track for MTNA's Pedagogy Saturday, she also presented group piano and RMM sessions throughout the U.S. As well as serving as a teacher trainer, she has written extensive articles on both group piano and RMM teaching. She has publications with Hal Leonard and Alfred Music listed on her website. (www.brendadillon.com).

The second movement of Blaze's Piano Sonata in E Major No. 1, following A Look Into The Past, A Moment In The Present was primarily inspired by Beethovenā€™s Piano Sonata in F Minor No. 1 and Piano Sonata in C Minor No. 8 ā€œPathetiqueā€. I gave it its name because I find it to be a very relaxing and dawdling piece. It reminds me of someone just lounging around and enjoying nothing but taking in the moment. The syncopated melody gives off the feeling that his thoughts are also jumbled together. He is not actively trying to achieve anything, but instead just letting anything come to him. It is supposed to contrast the first movement by being simpler and more relaxing (where the first is dominating and complex). I especially wanted a much more lyrical and monophonic (single voiced) piece to contrast with the polyphony (many voiced) and layers of the first.

The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is a dance for a ballerina. It is the third movement in The Nutcracker pas de deux. This pas de deux is from Act 2 of the 1892 ballet The Nutcracker. It is danced by the principal female dancer. The number was choreographed by Lev Ivanov to music written by Tchaikovsky. Choreographer Marius Petipa wanted the Sugar Plum Fairy's music to sound like drops of water shooting from a fountain. Tchaikovsky found the ideal instrument to do this job in Paris in 1891. It was then that he came across the recently invented celesta. This instrument looked like a piano. It sounded like bells. Tchaikovsky wrote, [The celesta is] midway between a tiny piano and a Glockenspiel, with a divinely wonderful sound. He wanted to use the celesta in The Nutcracker. He asked his publisher to buy one. He wanted to keep the purchase a secret. He did not want other Russian composers to get wind of it and ... use it for unusual effects before me. Tchaikovsky introduced the celesta to Russian music lovers on 19 March 1892 when the Nutcracker Suite was performed for the Russian Musical Society in St. Petersburg. The instrument is forever identified with the Sugar Plum Fairy. It is heard in other parts of Act 2 of The Nutcracker besides the Sugar Plum Fairy's dance.[3] The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is one of the ballet's best known musical numbers. It is often jazzed up for television commercials at Christmas time. This arrangement was written by Stepan Esipoff and Edited by FLAVIO REGIS CUNHA. By Jennifer Oleksy. By Lowell Mason. Arranged by Jennifer Oleksy. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Praise & Worship,Religious. Score. 4 pages. Jennifer Oleksy #931742. Published by Jennifer Oleksy (A0.1347261).

This intermediate/ advanced arrangement of Joy to the World intersperses original melody with the classic Christmas hymn. Ā It is meant to set the scene of a dark, anxious, and weary world desperate for the arrival of a Savior. Ā The original melody builds from sadness to hope, and at that moment the beautiful chords of Joy to the World begin, like the light of Christ's arrival breaking onto a dreary world.

To me, Joy to the World perfectly reflects both the sentiments of Christ's birth AND His second coming - I wanted this arrangement to be relevant to people now. Ā So many of us are desperate for the saving, the peace, and the healing that only He can give. Ā The world feels dark and scary, represented by music mixed throughout the piece, but Christ's coming truly brings joy to the world - magnificent, majestic, and genuine joy. Ā It did then, it does now, and it will in the future. Ā

This arrangement combines a sense of the world's darkness with the sense of Christ's triumph. Ā It is complex and majestic in parts, but sweet and simple in others. Ā And after a grandiose climax, the simple ending is meant to bring us back to where it all began - in the humble setting of a stable in Bethlehem.

Composed by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #566749. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987080).

This piece is one of an album of my contemporary classical compositions. Yes, I too wince at offering you something saddled with this oxymoron--contemporary classical--but this phrase is now an irresistible, commercially recognized category defying any principled protest from the ranks of wounded musicological curmudgeons like me.Ā  The style here employs a tonal palette that celebrates the more or less common practice of composers from J. S. Bach to Ravel, Prokofiev, and the 20th century American songbook.Ā  You will see that I reject Arnold Schoenberg's assertion that by 1910 tonality had exhausted itself, and needed to be reinvented according to an aesthetics that dismiss our scales and harmonies as purely arbitrary human conventions with no basis in nature. On the contrary, I believe that we are endowed by our nature to respond emotionally to our traditional materials of music in the same way as nature equips us to respond to the taste of food and drink. We differ in our taste for savory, sweet, and sour, but it is wrong to say that our very capacity to taste is a merely cultural convention. There is biology, and then physics too! By the same standard, it can't be true that one person's taste for arsenic is as valid as another's taste for beer or kumquats. The major triad is a force of nature, like the sun, wind, and rain! I also like big fat juicy 13 chords, and contrapuntal weaving of melody! I believe the purpose of music is to sway us emotionally, and if it can uplift us too, so much the better! While I am not ashamed to write a bare triad, unadorned by chromatic alterations (much less by clusters of chord collisions) I have nevertheless employed much complicated harmony. Moreover, some passages are written in a spiky harmony that might be analyzed as bitonal, as at the meno mosso section, beginning at measure 112, where the mood I wanted to set inspired me to write the theme in C minor while the left hand climbs up from the bottom of the keyboard in a widely spaced, D-flat 13 arpeggio.Ā  I have composed these pieces with the skills of intermediate to early-advanced pianists in mind.Ā This piece demands the ability to play some counterpoint between two voices in one hand. There is a section that requires one to play moderately fast octaves, but nothing as difficult as the G minor Prelude of Chopin (to say nothing of his harrowing octave Etude from Opus 25!) While there are many polyrhythmic passages, none is more complicated than two-against-three notes. All said, there is nothing here to make your hands (or, I dare say, your ears) bleed. The performing time is around nine minutes and a breath or three. I have a number of videos posted on YouTube.com, I have a website under construction, ericpaulnolte.com, and, since 2011, an occasional blog of my ravings on life, love, and the cosmos, at ericpaulnolte.blogspot.com. You may write me at nolte0125@gmail.com.
