Published by Peter Daniel Klein (A0.1029559). I have written a programmatic, neo-romantic/post-romantic prose and musical fragment/miniature based on Schlegel's writings about a Hedgehog. Fragment in the sense that it is not fully developed, yet, in another sense, it is overdeveloped for its length. There are several modern elements in that it is bitonal at one point. At another point, I pit Scriabin's mystic chord, which is his synthetic mode, against what I feel is its nearest aeolian mode, c-minor, which is modernistically dissonant.   It is written in 'classicized' AABA popular song form, which is perfect for a miniature. It revolves around the programmatic, free verse' Prayer,' a plea to God for sleep, elusive due to the mourning of lost love and the associated emptiness and grief felt deep in the night. It is motivic in that there is a repeated augmented 6 to a half-diminished cadence that introduces the theme and then serves to transition each small section, in a secondary dominant style repetition until reaching tonic.   -A1 is a simple statement of the linear theme and harmony in 6ths, and 9ths, almost in keeping with the introductory and transitionary cadence, at least intervallically.   -A2 is a restatement of that theme with an added countermelody (which becomes the subject of section B) woven between the upper linear melody and the altered bass accompaniment.   -B begins with a short statement of the countermelody bi-tonally, the left hand in c minor, the right in g minor. There is a brief transposition between several keys, bitonally, while the sostenuto pedal holds a pedal tone until it attenuates completely.  The two measures build from repressed despondency to rage, as strong emotions often do, quickly turning to dissonant chaos. The dynamics and intensity build to a diminished chord whose top note moves up half a step to a Scriabin mystic chord arpeggio.  The held sustain pedal melds the dissonance together with emotional tumult, which fades as quickly as it came, as outbursts often do.   -A3 starts with the motivic cadence and a deep bass pedal tone. This section is the crowning moment in the piece. In sixths, the macabre accompaniment moves to the right-hand upper tessitura as the more developed 'A' melody moans below in the bass and baritone as the music ebbs away. A simple c-minor arpeggio strains against a very similar Scriabin mystic chord arpeggio, an octave or a minor seventh apart, ending on an A major and A flat in sweet, gentle, unresolved dissonance against a dying root pedal tone, the final teardrop.

The trees move in the wind and the leaves rustle and fly around Whiskers which causes him to panic.As the piece moves to a more active section with the use of semiquavers, Whiskers begins to run further into the forest, losing his sense of direction from the confusion caused by the wind and all the leaves about. Whiskers frantically tries to find his way back home but the wind grows stronger blowing more leaves around which makes it even harder to see where he’s going.Eventually the leaves settle back on the ground as the wind dies down and comes to a rest. Whiskers has stumbled across something he has never seen before in this forest, a house. It looks abandoned and like someone used to live there many decades ago. He stops in his tracks to take a good long look at the mysterious looking house that towers before him.

Dedicated to Jason, the hero of the Greek mythology, it has to be played in a hymnic manner. Jason went on a most adventurous journey to the very outermost coast of the Black Sea with this motley entourage - the Argonauts - in order to seize the Golden Fleece, a gigantic golden ram skin. Just about where the Georgian city of Batumi is today. If you would like to know more about it, you may want to read the chapter “Die Reise nach Batumi� (The Journey to Batumi) in our roadbook “Quadro Nuevo: Grand Voyage. To every person who is interested in these old myths, I recommend the books of the author and journalist Michael Kohlmeier, for example his amusing interpretations of the Sagen des Klassischen Altertums (Sagas of the classical antiquity). Just East of Batumi the Caucasus begins, with its colourful mixture of ancient peoples and cultures. I have always been fascinated with musicians who originate from this region. For example the composer Aram Katschaturian or the pianist David Gazarov, with whom I often play concerts. An Eastern groove suits this song well, quite comparable to a fast rumba. I suggest you play the intro (may be extended) and the theme (measures 6 to 39) first. Then you may improvise freely over the AABA-form of the theme. The last solo part is shortened because the B-part leads into a percussion solo. This percussion solo may be omited. After the last complete solo part you can repeat the theme and then play the al fine. For Improvisation: On a separate sheet I am offering some scales to the chords of the song in various transpositions, which is helpful as basic material for improvisations. Some chords (like the very first one) fit several different scales. Decide for yourself which one you prefer. Or maybe even make up your own. Even though these notes may sound right with the chords, one thing always holds true in creative music: There should be no dogmatic wrong or right. Sometimes what seems like a wrong note, could give the progression of the melody its special colour, tension and spice. Sometimes an improvisation with exclusive right notes is correct in music theory, but sounds terribly boring. Besides, every improviser is encouraged to happily help themselves to the chromatics. All of this is only a suggestion. Music becomes exciting and colourful when the basic material is interpreted in an imaginative and creative way!
