The child’s journey starts in a toxic playground at home.

The child roams among cuckoos, who make their nests in other creatures’
homes. He knows this well, with his plethora of step dads.

III. First Loss, Inner Flight
The child experiences his first loss, and goes into inner flight.

IV. A Curious Story
The actual awaited long journey of the child begins. A very curious story
indeed.

V. Hospitality Dream (About Strange Lands and Peoples)
At last, the child arrives with his dream of hospitality among strange lands
and peoples, and is met with a rude, if not deadly, awakening.

This late intermediate suite of three songs for piano was created out of my fascination with the allegory of the Fool's journey found in different Tarot decks.  In some the Fool has a Flowering Staff, which provides the impetus for the first piece, The Flowering Staff.  In others the Fool has a leaping, laughing dog.  The little dog was my guide for the second piece, The Laughing Dog. And sometimes the Fool is found stepping off the side of a cliff, inspiring the third piece, Beyond the Abyss.
