The title was inspired by the words of Isaiah (53:4) -- Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. This arrangement is very solemn throughout matching the powerful lyrics (see below) about the death of Christ and how our hope is built on him.
