Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1294155

Composed by James Horner. Arranged by Elizabeth Shier & Dana Thynes. 20th Century,Celtic,Film/TV,Irish. Score. 5 pages. Dana Thynes #884580. Published by Dana Thynes (A0.1294155).

BRAVEHEART THEME for piano, in the key of F

The main theme of Braveheart begins with soft flute-like melody notes against a quiet background.  A fragment of the Scottish tune Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair weaves its way into the bottom of page one, and then deep chords at the top of page two give a low and ominous premonition of battle.

Slowly it builds with bigger chords.  Dissonances compete in the melody and harmony, always building.  Big octave-plus-fifth left hand chords give a medieval sound.

The flavor of Braveheart, the movie, is captured in this arrangement.  Not too difficult, but with a few challenges, this is a satisfying piece to play over and over again, emotions soaring and always feeling like you are there with William Wallace in the fight for FREEDOM.

Two versions in different keys (F & Gb), but otherwise identical.  The arrangement in F is much easier, of course, and easier to read.  Though most of the music remains in the primary key (either F or Gb) Braveheart travels rapidly through several key transitions on pages 2-3 in the key of F, and pages 2-4 in the key of Gb.

Though the key of F is easier, the key of Gb seems to have a special magic, as piano pieces utilizing the black keys frequently do!  The piano recording heard in the video is performed in the key of Gb.

Composed by Mario Totaro. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 44 pages. Preludio s.r.l. #6140709. Published by Preludio s.r.l. (A0.808952).

Six Bagatelles for piano written by italian composer Mario Totaro.

In the summer of 2016 Preludio asks the composer Mario Totaro to write some pieces for piano intended for sync advertising, movies and television. However, in the publisher’s intention, these pieces would have to possess a number of specific features: simplicity, neutral expressivity, positivity, in order to be functional to the objective. Mario Totaro accepted the challenge, and the five bagatelles published in this volume are his personal «answer».

Maintaining a balance between individuality and business needs can be very difficult, as it can be hard to reach a certain level of «acceptability» in this field. Difficult, but not impossible. Yet such a challenge can also be as stimulating as amusing experience. Moreover, these bagatelles prove it: despite being quite simple, they reveal a care for detail and a significant daintiness; they are indeed expressive, but they refer to the imagination of their author; finally, they are functional to their purpose without showing it, as too often happens to a certain type of «musical wallpaper» to which we are accustomed. In short, Totaro can measure out all the elements without sacrificing his compositive personality or artistic integrity, and this is definitely a goal that not all composers (sometimes even the biggest) can achieve.

About the arrangement

This is a relatively easy to play solo piano jazz arrangement of THE BAR NECESSITIES. The song is a traditional jazz tune made famous in the Walt Disney movie THE JUNGLE BOOK.
The video and audio recording I posted here features me playing the short version of my arrangement. When played as written (with all the repeats) it is almost 4 minutes long.

What's cool about this arrangement is that you can easily add a bass player and even an entire rhythm section while playing it the same way as you would in a solo performance!

Who this arrangement is best suited for

I think everyone who likes the song except perhaps advanced jazz pianists will have fun learning and playing this arrangement.
I arranged this piece originally with my younger piano students in mind, who have smaller hands than most adults. That’s why there are no large intervals or big jumps in the left hand. Something generally found in ragtime and early jazz piano styles. This means that my arrangement is perfectly suited for pianists with smaller hands. Of course pianists with large hands (like myself) can play it too (ha-ha!).
I think it is also a great piece for pianists who want to familiarize themselves with playing jazz piano. And since I wrote out every note and articulation, they can play along with the recording and hopefully pick up the traditional jazz feel along the way.
Although the arrangement is not very difficult, it poses several challenges for the inexperienced pianist, as explained later.

How I arranged it

As I already explained above, there are no large intervals or big jumps in the left hand to be found. Instead, I focused more on polyphonic arranging techniques, in both hands. I also used guide tones and inversions.
The left hand imitates the accompaniment style of a traditional jazz guitar or banjo player with added half time bass figures that are typically played by a tuba or upright bass an octave lower.

Tips for how to learn this arrangement

When I teach this song to my students I strongly recommend to them to listen to the original version and my recording a lot, rather than explaining to them how swinging eighth notes and jazz articulation work. By the way, there are a few bars where you hear me playing straight eighths on the recording (as indicated in the sheet music).
I decided to add articulations so that pianists who have not a lot of experience with playing jazz will find it easier to play it with the appropriate “touchâ€. It's a good idea to check those out.
Should you not be familiar with playing polyphonic passages with one hand, you might want to practice very slowly at first and attempt to balance the different voices appropriately.
Listening to the recording will also help with discovering dynamic possibilities. I didn’t want to clutter up the sheet music with dynamic markings, so listening to the recording is really the only way to figure out what dynamics I had in mind.

By Bill Haley & His Comets. By Jimmy DeKnight and Max C. Freedman. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Film/TV,Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 8 pages. Timothy Stapay #1086120. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1510902).

Rock Around the Clock is a rock and roll song made famous by Bill Haley and the Comets.

This is widely considered to be the song that, more than any other, brought rock and roll into mainstream culture around the world. The song is ranked No. 159 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Rock Around the Clock is often cited as the biggest-selling vinyl rock and roll single of all time.

Lyrics:

One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight

Put your glad rags on and join me, hon'
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

When the clock strikes two, three and four
If the band slows down we'll yell for more
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

When the chimes ring five, six and seven
We'll be right in seventh heaven
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too
I'll be goin' strong and so will you
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

When the clock strikes twelve, we'll cool off then
Start a rockin' round the clock again
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

LEGEND OF MERMAIND - Sara's slow version - (Piano accompaniment) for INTERMEDIATE PIANO

Hello! My name is Alba and I consider myself the biggest Pichi Pichi Pitch fan since I was a little kid, like many others my age. I've always been obsessed with Sara's version of Legend of Mermaind. It's such a beautiful arrangement and the way it fits the scene makes me cry every time, so I really wanted to play it, but after years of searching for the sheet music without finding anything, I decided to arrange it myself. It took me a lot of time, I'm not going to lie, since the piece is more difficult than it seems, at least for me, since I'm still relatively new to the piano. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :-).
