This piece is dedicated to my former coworkers who recently quit. They've been there since I started my job two years ago and they became great friends of mine. Most of this piece was just me messing around, hence why it's called Horsin' Around. You'll notice that this piece doesn't follow a raggy rhythm like most of my pieces. It takes a more marchy approach, but there are still syncopated phrases here and there. I had a lot of fun making this, and honestly it's one of my favorite compositions.

About The Devil's Etude

I composed this etude for piano solo in October 2019. I was inspired by a few piano master pieces. They are mainly Robert Schumann’s Toccata in C, Op. 7, Franz Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes no. 5 (Feux Follets) and also Ligeti’s L'Escalier du diable. I also quoted the Gregorian chant Dies Irae and varied it in the middle section of this piece. 

** There is an error in the metronome marking in the second section. It should be Allegretto (1 quaver beat= 70) and NOT (1 crotchet beat = 70).

You'll love the feel of your fingers flying across the keys while performing this crowd-pleaser that never fails to get attention from listeners! It's a lively piece with a strong melody set upon a backdrop of minor tones that add a touch of sophistication.

These are concert works, played by many fully virtuostic performers over the last 150 years.
So, having said THAT, we have indeed edited these so as to make them MORE accessible to the young person who is a student of the piano today. A tango written by Giacomo Puccini? Indeed! In 1942 'Piccolo Tango' by the Italian opera composer was published by an American music publisher. The question as to whether it was actually composed by Puccini has not been confirmed - but the heirs had the work protected by copyright, thus confirming Puccini's authorship. In the years 1907 and 1910 the composer took one trip each to the United States. It might be possible that Puccini wrote the little tango on that occasion, thus showing his reverence to the host country with bold jazzy harmonies. And he was not the only classical composer who dared to take an excursion into the realm of entertaining music, for even fellow composers such as Igor Stravinsky or Kurt Weill, Erwin Schulhoff or Isaac Albéniz were tempted to compose a tango too.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is an English Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems. The carol, based on Luke 2:14, tells of an angelic chorus singing praises to God. As it is known in the modern era, it features lyrical contributions from Charles Wesley and George Whitefield, two of the founding ministers of Methodism, with music adapted from Vaterland, in deinen Gauen by Felix Mendelssohn.

Wesley, who had written the original version as Hymn for Christmas-Day, had requested and received slow and solemn music for his lyrics, which has since largely been discarded. Moreover, Wesley's original opening couplet is Hark! how all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings. The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, most notably by Whitefield, who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one. In 1840-a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of movable type printing, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, that propels the carol known today.
