Composed by David McKeown. Broadway,Holiday,Love,Musical/Show,Wedding. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6216873. Published by David McKeown (A0.590600).

Love is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Oboes, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the songs from the great American Songbook. Musical theatre on Broadway reached its heyday in the ‘30s and ‘40s with composers such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter writing regular new shows. This period coincided with the jazz and swing era; as well as countless instrumental interpretations, singers such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald brought these songs to new audiences outside the theatre. They remain popular today, providing a soundtrack for every romantic occasion, and Love aims to capture the melody, form and spirit of these timeless songs.

Love is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. Expressive throughout, after the rubato preamble, the song is a classic 32 bar AABA structure. Love has a performance time of around three minutes and a half minutes. Click the link above to listen to a full YouTube performance the Clarinet version of this duet.

Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. Score. 8 pages. David McKeown #5743981. Published by David McKeown (A0.588942).

Merengue de Merlín is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Oboes.

This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Merengue that emerged in the Dominican Republic during the Nineteenth Century. Merengue Tipico bands maintain the traditional instrumentation of the double-headed tambora drum, güira, accordion and vocal, while urban bands in the North American diaspora often add saxophone, bass and other percussion. The Merengue dance became hugely popular in the 1950s and new forms continue to draw audiences around the world.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady quintilla tambora rhythm is present throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style. The main challenge is the fast tempo and melodies should be clearly articulated. Merengue de Merlín has a performance time of around two and a half minutes at full tempo. You can listen to a full performance the Alto Saxophone version of this duet by following the YouTube link above.

Shlof Mein Kind is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The simple melody is played three times with varying accompaniment. Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6020757. Published by David McKeown (A0.588954).

Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Oboes.

Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.

Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. O Christmas Tree, (O Tannenbaum), is a much-loved Christmas song. This version is arranged as a duet in a Jazz Waltz/Swing style for two Oboes. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.

The melody of O Christmas Tree is Polish in origin and dates back to the sixteenth century. The lyrics we know and love were added much later by German composer Ernst Anschütz in 1824. The lyrics were originally a homage to the fir tree, using the evergreen foliage as a metaphor for constancy and loyalty. The association with Christmas appeared later in the nineteenth century.

With a performance time of three minutes and a half minutes, this version of O Christmas Tree is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz waltz style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.

O Christmas Tree is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Rhythms are syncopated, as one would expect in jazz waltz music, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. While the key is straightforward, there are several busy passages to keep players on their toes. The melody is played four times, the last in 4/4 time with a short coda. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate level.

Composed by David McKeown. Easter,Latin,Pop,R & B,Rock. Score. 3 pages. David McKeown #6290865. Published by David McKeown (A0.591270).

The Chocolate Chalypso is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Oboes

Chocolate Chalypso is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist.

Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, Chocolate Chalypso is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Composed by Yakow Jadow. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6080559. Published by David McKeown (A0.589584).

Bublitschki is a Ukrainian/Jewish Folk song, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Oboes.

Bublitschki was written in 1922 by Yakov Jadow. The title means pretzels in Russian and was inspired by the pretzel sellers by the railway station in Odessa. Jadow observed that the street-vendors were poverty-stricken and wrote the song as a lament. Initially popular in the Soviet Union, a recording by the Barry Sisters in 1939 brought this song to an international audience.

Bublitschki is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in two sections and is played twice with a short coda and constant variations in the accompaniment. Bublitschki is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of just over three minutes, this version of Bublitschki is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal. Composed by David McKeown. Holiday,Latin,Love,Wedding,World. Score. 5 pages. David McKeown #6233589. Published by David McKeown (A0.590699).

Amor, (Portuguese for Love), is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Oboes, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is based on the Brazilian style of Bossa Nova which evolved in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1950s. Bossa in its purest form is lyrical song accompanied by nylon-stringed guitar. The rhythm derives from Samba but is played at around half tempo. The harmony is often complex and influenced by jazz; indeed it was the collaboration between guitarist João Gilberto and American Saxophonist Stan Getz that led to the huge international popularity of Bossa Nova in the 1960s and beyond.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Amor has a performance time of around three minutes. Click the link above to listen to a full YouTube performance of the clarinet version of Amor.
