This is a medley of two old English carols, The Holly and The Ivy and I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In, in a jazz style arrangement. It was originally part of the two volume clarinet collection, Carols For The King From Around The World, also available at Sheet Music Press. For advanced intermediate performers, this is sheer fun from start to finish, and very suitable for Christmas concerts. The piano left hand plays a walking bass throughout and could be performed with a double bass player - contact me for the extracted part. See also versions for violin, viola and flute solo. This is the beautiful Austrian carol arranged for alto saxophone solo and piano in slow jazz ballad style. It is from a set of international carols commissioned by clarinetist Lydia Calhoun for her CD, Carols for the King from Around the World, released in 2015. For more advanced performers, this perennial favorite is suitable for Christmas concerts and church preludes or offertories; it can be taken at either a moderate or a slower tempo, and is around 5 minutes in length. The MIDI recording is only to give an idea of the piece. See also the versions for cello solo, clarinet solo and solo piano. Manger Medley is a 3-song collection of Christmas carols (O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away in a Manger, and Silent Night! Holy Night!) for Solo Alto Sax and Piano, surrounding the birth of Christ. The arrangement infuses jazz harmonies supporting the solo and uses the keys of Db, Eb, and Ab to create a still and peaceful setting. This arrangement would work great for an offertory in church and any Christmas concert or Christmas Eve service. The difficulty level is early intermediate and the performance time is 4:12.
