Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.582029 Composed by Henri Kling. Arranged by John Gibson. Folk,Holiday,Patriotic,Pop,Traditional. 54 pages. JB Linear #4313901. Published by JB Linear (A0.582029). Henri Kling's The Two Little Bulfinches was published in 1908. It is a duet for two instruments and band, often played with two piccolos, two clarinets, or two trumpets. It is a fun and twitter-y piece that is perfect for a light interlude in a full concert. This setting for clarinet choir by John Gibson includes solo parts for 2 Bb clarinets as well as 2 Eb clarinets. The Eb parts actually lay easier in the fingers. These parts can be mixed or matched as desired. It is for a full clarinet choir: clarinet 1,2,3 - alto clarinet or alternate 4th Bb part, bass clarinet, contrabass/contralto. .

Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549204 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. 56 pages. Jmsgu3 #3461855. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549204). Instrumentation: 2 Eb clarinets, 4 Bb clarinets, 2 bass clarinets. Arranged as a double quartet. Includes Full Score: 28 pg. Study Score: 14 pg. and instrumental parts: 2 pg. Duration: ca. 3:00. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.581878 Composed by John Gibson. Contemporary. 66 pages. JB Linear #3007591. Published by JB Linear (A0.581878). Canons Firing From an Ever Rising Staircase, Or, Heed the Effer's Frantic Calls  This is the 1st movement of a piece for clarinet choir written by John Gibson called Klarifications. The complete is also available. This movement is set for solo Eb clarinet; Bb clarinets 1,2, and 3; 2 Alto clarinets (with alternate Bb parts); 2 Bass clarinets; Bb Contrabass clarinet (with an alternate Eb Contra Alto part). To explain the title just a bit, the ever rising staircase is an aural trick that, if done precisely, sounds like the music keeps rising without really doing so.  This was derived from what is called a Shepard's Tone. The canons firing are not cannons! The bass instruments play small sections of actual canons (like fancy rounds) written by J S Bach, Mozart, and others. Each time the solo Eb clarinet (the Effer) announces the coming canon firing in a frantic sort of way.  Considering the Eb clarinet part, and the need for the Bb clarinets to carry the rising staircase, this is for an advanced group. It runs a little over 3 minutes in length. The recording is computer generated, although I plan to record a live version someday.

Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,Contra Alto Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.581881 Composed by John Gibson. Contemporary. 90 pages. JB Linear #3012617. Published by JB Linear (A0.581881). Klarifications for Clarinet Choir is a three movement piece for a large clarinet choir.  It is set for Eb Soprano (one player), Bb clarinet 1-2-3, 2 alto clarinets, 2 bass clarinets, and Bb Contra. This would be best in a clarinet choir with at least two on a part in the Bb clarinet section. Here is what Margaret Thornhill wrote about this piece in The Clarinet magazine, June 2017: The dramatic first movement is a dialogue between an eefer (Eb clarinet) and the rest of the ensemble, incorporating paraphrases of excepts from Bach to Bizet.  It is followed by a surprising second movement chorale with slap tongue, flutter tongue and finger popping intended to be individually miked.  The final movement is an exciting montuno, including a section where each person can choose which riffs to play. The 1st movement, Canons Firing From an Ever Rising Staircase, Or, Heed the Effer's Frantic Calls   To explain the title just a bit, the ever rising staircase is an aural trick that, if done precisely, sounds like the music keeps rising without really doing so. The 2nd movement (Close Encounters with Basses) makes use of a number of unusual sounds on clarinet (or parts thereof) along with a few extended techniques that are fairly easy to play with the clear instructions provided. The altos, basses, and contra should be closely miked to be heard. The 3rd movement (Sometimes Free - A Montuno) starts off with a rich beat in the basses and gradually joined with the rest of the clarinets. In the montuno section there are 4 bar phrases each player can choose from to play during the 32 bars. They may choose what they will, either playing a different variation each time, using the same one each time, or choosing to not play for a particular 4 bar section. This is not a free improvisation, however! This is definitely for an advanced group of players. The 1st movement is also available separately. The sample recording uses Finale software in the 1st and 3rd movement, and John Gibson's recording of the 2nd movement.

Blues,Christmas,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Standards. 22 pages. Grant Horsley #736950. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1136960). Cocktails is a lazy, bluesy, jazzy relaxing style piece scored for Clarinet in E flat, 3 B flat Clarinets, Alto and Bass Clarinet. It is in a relaxed 12/8 with plenty of lush harmonies. It is in concert B flat major in ternary form (middle section in E flat major) and a small coda. I have set it to intermediate level as most of the rhythmic work is quarter notes and eighths. It could be a useful for gaining experience playing in 12/8 time as well as learning the style. The full score is 9 pages without repeats- parts are 2 pages each and the range of the instruments is about 2 octaves- top part a touch more. The full score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. It is 4 mins 37 in length- ideal for concerts, recitals, contests, festivals, occasions, Christmas or just something different to add to the repertoire. Price is for the full score and all parts.

Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813438 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Multicultural,Standards,Wedding,World. 36 pages. Regis Bookshar #6260467. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813438). Canon (Pachelbel) (Bb) (Clarinet Octet) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Clarinet Octet. Three Clarinets play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other five instruments. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (36 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, but another version is also available in the key of D Major if you would prefer. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813065 Composed by Traditional French Melodies. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,Multicultural,Standards,World. 22 pages. Regis Bookshar #6096679. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813065). Clarinet Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Burgundian Air/March of the Three Kings, has been arranged for 5 Clarinets by Regis Bookshar. It incorporates two Traditional French melodies into one exciting arrangement, which, I'm certain, will entertain both performers and audiences alike. It is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services but could be performed anytime and anywhere. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (22 pages). It begins with a Burgundian Air, played by a solo instrument. The melody is then played by two instruments in harmony before the rest of the ensemble joins in. This is followed by the March of the Three Kings, a Provencal melody (La Marche Des Rois Mages) which dates from the 13th century and recalls the Three Kings of the Christmas story. The peasants probably sang and danced to this tune, even perhaps honoring their own folk heroes, the French dukes, dressed in their shining armor and carrying brilliant banners, as they marched off to the Crusades. Georges Bizet utilized this tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet's play L'Arlesienne (The Girl from Arles). There is a fugal section in which each instrument enters, playing an embellished version of the tune before concluding the arrangement. Also available are other settings of these two Traditional French melodies for a variety of instrumental ensemble as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that students will enjoy playing this arrangement.
