Louisiana Fairy Tale (or Louisiana Fairytale) is a song written in 1935 by Haven Gillespie, with lyrics by Mitchell Parish and J. Fred Coots, and was originally popularized by Fats Waller. Waller's version opens with him playing a four-bar solo piano lead-in to a clarinet melody backed by drums, guitar, clarinet, trumpet and piano. A muted trumpet bridge precedes Waller's vocal verses, and a Dixieland-style improvisational instrumental jam closes the recording. This arrangement for Clarinet Choir, at the Intermediate Level, includes parts for Eb Clarinet, 1st Clarinet (Solo), 2nd Clarinet, 3rd Clarinet, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Full Score.

Walt Disney’s movie, Disenchanted, is the long-awaited sequel to Enchanted.  Alan Menken, one of my favorite composers, wrote the music for it, and it certainly did not disappoint the audience.Fairytale Life (The Wish) is the first part of the two-part song, sung by Giselle (Amy Adams).  Things aren’t quite fairytale-ish, and living happily ever after seemed to have been just temporary.  At the end of the song, Giselle realizes that if she wants happiness, she is responsible for making it happen.This piece is scored for 4 Bb, alto, bass, and contrabass clarinets.  It is suited for musicians with intermediate skill.Duration: 3.5 minutes.

Canons Firing From an Ever Rising Staircase, Or, Heed the Effer's Frantic Calls  This is the 1st movement of a piece for clarinet choir written by John Gibson called Klarifications. The complete is also available. This movement is set for solo Eb clarinet; Bb clarinets 1,2, and 3; 2 Alto clarinets (with alternate Bb parts); 2 Bass clarinets; Bb Contrabass clarinet (with an alternate Eb Contra Alto part). To explain the title just a bit, the ever rising staircase is an aural trick that, if done precisely, sounds like the music keeps rising without really doing so.  This was derived from what is called a Shepard's Tone. The canons firing are not cannons! The bass instruments play small sections of actual canons (like fancy rounds) written by J S Bach, Mozart, and others. Each time the solo Eb clarinet (the Effer) announces the coming canon firing in a frantic sort of way.  Considering the Eb clarinet part, and the need for the Bb clarinets to carry the rising staircase, this is for an advanced group. It runs a little over 3 minutes in length. The recording is computer generated, although I plan to record a live version someday.

This tune was arranged for Clarinet Fusion’s 2015 holiday season performances, but was not debuted until early 2017 and was well received. This is a perfect tune for your winter or holiday program, but can also programmed for any time of the year. This intermediate level arrangement is scored for a 9-piece clarinet choir with parts for: Eb Clarinet, 5 Bb Clarinet, Eb Alto, Bb Bass and BBb Contrabass. The score includes an alternate part the Eb Alto Clarinet (Bb Clarinet-6). The part was originally scored for Eb Alto and it is the preferred instrumental color and provides a lower tonal range. There also is an EEb ContraAlto part as an alternate for the BBb Contrabass depending on your choir’s instrument availability (the Contrabass is preferred, if possible). This selection, Burgundian Air/March of the Three Kings, has been arranged for 5 Clarinets by Regis Bookshar. It incorporates two Traditional French melodies into one exciting arrangement, which, I'm certain, will entertain both performers and audiences alike. It is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services but could be performed anytime and anywhere. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (22 pages). It begins with a Burgundian Air, played by a solo instrument. The melody is then played by two instruments in harmony before the rest of the ensemble joins in. This is followed by the March of the Three Kings, a Provencal melody (La Marche Des Rois Mages) which dates from the 13th century and recalls the Three Kings of the Christmas story. The peasants probably sang and danced to this tune, even perhaps honoring their own folk heroes, the French dukes, dressed in their shining armor and carrying brilliant banners, as they marched off to the Crusades. Georges Bizet utilized this tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet's play L'Arlesienne (The Girl from Arles). There is a fugal section in which each instrument enters, playing an embellished version of the tune before concluding the arrangement. Also available are other settings of these two Traditional French melodies for a variety of instrumental ensemble as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles.
