It is a real epic of a piece, not dissimilar to Bohemian Rhapsody in the way that it moves regularly and swiftly through different styles, tempos, keys, moods and times. It is arranged here to suit a large ensemble and has an optional drum kit part for additional sparkle should a drummer be available. It features most of the instruments at some point and is exciting and challenging to play across the whole ensemble. Whilst challenging to play, this arrangement has been performed many times and is an impressive concert item. It lasts for over 5 minutes.

Program Notes Do You Hear What I Hear? is a song written in October 1962, with lyrics by Noël Regney and music by Gloria Shayne Baker. Regney had been invited by a record producer to write a Christmas song, but he was hesitant due to the commercialism of the Christmas holiday. Regney and Baker, married at the time, wrote it as a plea for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It has become a Christmas classic, selling tens of millions of copies and has being covered by hundreds of artists. The song was originally recorded by the Harry Simeone Chorale, the group that had also popularized The Little Drummer Boy. I have arranged it here for clarinet ensemble with optional drum kit, and kept it true to the original version.
