SKU: A0.1310182

Composed by Clement Janequin. Arranged by Clara Obsidian. Chamber,Early Music,Renaissance. 23 pages. Clara Obsidian #899319. Published by Clara Obsidian (A0.1310182).

Le Chant des Oiseaux, also known as Reveillez Vous is a renown chanson (poetic piece) for 4 voices written in 1529 by Renaissance composer Clément Janequin. This work employs several programmatic elements by means of imitation and bird sounds, and its singing lyrical lines coupled with fast rhythmic figures tell a story of the birdsong, who awakens sleeping hearts after a long winter slumber.

Arranged for Cello Quartet, with notes of the birds' calls assimilated in the score to facilitate the imitation of the birds.
The tonality has been raised from G minor to D minor to allow for a wider use of range while keeping its playability within Advanced Intermediate.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,March,Romantic Period. 14 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #774008. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1173855).

This arrangement adapted for violoncello quartet was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by James Brady. 20th Century,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 7 pages. James Brady Music #5709911. Published by James Brady Music (A0.887013).

This arrangement of the opening of Mussorgsky's best-known work is ideally suited as an opening or closing statement piece for a group of 4 early-intermediate cellos (or basses, with one with a C extension) or other bass clef instruments. It stays true to the original piece with adaptations in range for developing players and an adapted ending better suited for standalone performance. The estimated duration of the performance is 1m 30s.

Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite of pieces for piano based on pictures by Mussorgsky's friend Viktor Hartmann, who died suddenly in 1873, aged 39. A memorial exhibition of Hartmann's works was staged in St. Petersburg the following year, and Mussorgsky's suite depicts walk around it, viewing 10 pictures in total. In addition to the pieces inspired by individual pictures, the suite contains several variations of the 'Promenade' theme, which depicts Mussorgsky roving through the exhibition, now leisurely, now briskly in order to come close to a picture that had attracted his attention, and at times sadly, thinking of his departed friend. (Vladimir Stasov).

Ranges have been reduced to accommodate young or developing players. The 1st part goes no higher than F4, and the bass part no lower than C2. The melody is mainly in the 1st part, with passages in the 2nd and 3rd parts from time to time, but as the texture of Mussorgksy's composition is almost exclusively homophonic, all parts have equal importance. I have inserted additional dynamics and accents to aid phrasing, and adapted the ending to suit a standalone performance.

Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Baroque,Concert. Score and parts. 19 pages. Joel Jacklich #5363175. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723157).

Georg Philipp Telemann wrote four concerti for four violins unaccompanied, his TWV 40:201-204.  Here is the first concerto in G major arranged for four violoncelli by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.).  This arrangement is an octave below the original violin work.  Taking the key down an octave and a fifth to accommodate the same parallel open strings as the violins made the range too low (very playable; however, very muddy).  Therefore, I have used the same key as the violin, taking it down only an octave.  This gives a much more pleasing sound, but makes the upper range notes much more difficult, going up to a D5, requiring the use of tenor and treble clefs.  It is therefore listed as an advanced piece.
