The string quartets by the Italian composer Antonio Capuzzi, on the other hand, probably are the only ones which were all created in Italy. Like Mozart's contributions to this genre, the Quintet in G major is scored for two violins, two violas and violoncello. Written in concertante form, the work lets all players have their musical say, offering both soloistic virtuoso figures and numerous melodic solos. The work shows Capuzzi's personal chamber music style, a real five-part setting which sometimes seems orchestral. Of all his quintets, it was the most frequently published one and was available in various editions even during Pleyel's lifetime. The modern character of this piece shows in the 'new kind' of compositional technique and elaboration of the themes, as presented by Joseph Haydn for the first time in 1781 in his String Quartets Op. 33. As with Haydn, the modern compositional style shows in the thematic work of the development which is mainly derived from the main theme. Particularly impressive is the elaboration of the theme by imitation, sequencing, shortening, rhythmic and tonal changes as well as by inversion.

As in Joseph Haydn's first quartets Op. 1, two minuets in the current quintet frame a slow middle section, a minor movement, which interrupts the common equality of keys. Typical of the early quintet settings of the Viennese area is the arrangement of violins and violas in pairs so that the parts are often similar to a trio setting accompanied in thirds. This arrangement of parts is sometimes broken up, in this case by the solo of the principal viola in the second trio or by the brief ensemble playing of the principal violin and cello in the slow movement.
