This famous, Purcell aria is one of only two items he composed for Richard Norton’s tragedy, Pausanius, Betrayer of His Country. Sung by the courtesan, Pandora, it was intended as a steamy seduction song with a slow, languorous start and gradually building to a passionate vivo ending. (Here in B Minor, suitable for sopranos)

This hauntingly beautiful aria from the finale of Purcell's, Dido and Aeneas, is rightly one of the most famous in baroque opera. Thinking his love for her has faded, Dido sends Aeneas away but unable to go on with out him, takes poison and sings this lament in the arms of her maid, Belinda. (Here in F# minor, baroque pitch, suitable for sopranos).
