'All the Young Dudes' is a fun period piece and a mid-tempo glam rock classic from the early 1970s, originally sung by Mott the Hoople but made more famous by David Bowie. The lyric is partly about being young and free, and partly about gender. and being a ‘dude’. It tells the story of several 'dudes' and celebrates what they get up to. Like many Bowie lyrics, it is double-edged, and the melody is catchy and fun to sing.

Originally sung by the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, the arrangement sticks closely to the original groove and form, and is designed for an intermediate level group. There is also a solo for a Baritenor with pop sound.

‘Changes’ is a psychedelic rock hit by David Bowie, from his classic 1971 album ‘Hunky Dory’. You may think you’ve never heard it until you hear the chorus lyric ‘Turn and face the strange ch-ch-changes’. The young writer is a radical, and tells the listener to get out of the way of change and let it in. Truth is also a key theme, and the song disparages ‘fakers’ and those that just want to get rich.

Suited for a chorus that is young and radical at heart, this TTBB arrangement makes the most of the anthemic chorus, and there are also some fun moments where singers use their voices to imitate electric guitars. Possibly the 11 o’clock song in your show.

Co-written by David Bowie, John Lennon and Carlos Alomar, ‘Fame’ is from the 1975 Bowie album ‘Young Americans’. Documenting Bowie’s American experience, the song is simultaneously a celebration of fame, and also a cutting and cynical tear-down of it. Lyrics reference how fame ‘drives you insane’ and ‘makes you hollow’, ‘too cool to fool’.

This energized and compelling TTBB arrangement has elements of a cappella, with 4-part vocal recreation of upbeat 1970s funk grooves. Intermediate level with a couple of more challenging melodic moments in individual parts, it would suit a chorus comfortable with making a pop sound. Suitable for choreography and costume, if your chorus enjoys that.
