Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.891196

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Laurie Betts Hughes. A Cappella,Contemporary,Folk,Traditional. Octavo. 5 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3103605. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891196).

Movement four of four Cowboy Songs of the American Southwest

This fun-to sing TTBB a cappella concert arrangement set of regional folksongs are evocative of barbershop, concert, and a cappella styles and utilize some fun extended techniques in the second movement.  Also appropriate for a versatile barbershop or men's quartet, upper HS level or above.

These four cowboy songs that make up the song cycle Cowboy Songs of the American Southwest are among the nearly 3,000 field recordings recorded in the U.S. Southwest, Mexico and Spain collected by John Donald Robb over 40 year while at the University of New Mexico.  These recordings preserve many of the musical traditions of these areas, especially New Mexico and Southern Colorado, and include Native American, Hispano, Mexican and African American music, as well as railroad and cowboy songs, fiddle music and the music of festivals and fiestas.

I.  The Call of the Range- Evocative of a carefree, lone cowboy singing while strumming his ukulele.  Barbershop harmonies, similar to ukulele harmonies, suggest a personification of both the ukulele and the rangeland itself as a character in the unfolding drama of the seemingly solitary cowboy.
II. I'm Sad and I'm Lonely- Whispered syllables and whistles evoke percussion and a bowed saw in this despondent tale of unrequited love and solitude.
III. Wild Horse of the Desert- The melody fights with the downbeat to mimic the wild horse fighting against land rights and fencing.
IV. When Cockle Shells Turn Silver Bells- An overly carefree, lighthearted shrug at lost love to embrace the lone cowboy lifestyle.

Due to current restrictions of the John Donald Robb field recordings housed at the University of New Mexico, movements I. The Call of the Range and III. Wild Horse of the Desert are offered with permission and without charge with the purchase of public domain arrangements of II. I'm Sad and I'm Lonely and IV. When Cockle Shells Turn Silver Bells forming an entire song cycle.  Movements II. and IV. are also available for purchase individually.

By The Ink Spots. By Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Eddie Seiler, and Sol Marcus. Arranged by Jay Dougherty. A Cappella,Barbershop,Contest,Festival,Jazz. 6 pages. Jay Dougherty #989330. Published by Jay Dougherty (A0.1406564).

I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire was sung by many groups in the 20th century, but made famous by The Ink Spots. This arrangement is written for TTBB a cappella in the contestable barbershop style by Jay Dougherty. It captures the playful levity of the original but also brings new life through rhythmic variation, harmony, and embellishment.

NOTE: There is a 10-copy minimum purchase. However, the per-copy price is set to the lowest possible setting at $1.99. If you want this song for a quartet, please understand that even with the 10-copy minimum (10 x $1.99), you're still paying only $20 for legal access to this music. The arranger gets nearly nothing, and you're getting great legal music for $5 per quartet member.

Learning tracks are available at: www.jmdougherty.com

Composed by Lyrics attributed to Frank H. Maynard, 1853-1926. Arranged by Donald A. Mills, 2018. A Cappella,Concert,Folk. Octavo. 5 pages. Donald A Mills #3544217. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928966).

Your men's chorus or quintet will love this song and its harmonies...and your audiences will as well.  This old standard Cowboy song, also known as The Cowboy's Lament, has been sung for hundreds of years. It has accumulated hundreds of chorus lines, some tame, some ribald. Treat your audience to this new arrangement, to be sung by an a cappella TTBB chorus or quartet plus a bass/baritone soloist.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Members of the Western Writers of America chose this song as one of the top 100 Western Sonngs of all time.

The song title refers to the city of Laredo, Texas. The authorship of the words were claimed by Frank H. Maynard (1853-1926) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The song was first published in 1910. The tune appears to be descended from an Irish song from the late 18th century called, The Unfortunate Rake.

Composed by Hugh Thomas Mcdonald. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Contemporary. Octavo. 17 pages. Sandra Milliken #4346163. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774726).

The Diamantina Drover is a song about life in the saddle in outback Queensland written by Australian singer-songwriter Hugh McDonald (1954-2016). Hugh was probably best known as a member of the folk-rock group Redgum. From 1986 to 1990 he was their lead singer and wrote a number of the group's hit songs, including The Diamantina Drover.

The Diamantina Drover tells the story of a drover who leaves behind his family in Sydney and sets out to find work on Cork Station on the banks of the Diamantina River in the channel country of far western Queensland. He promises his family that he’ll return home when the droving is finished. But ten years go by and, despite the hardships of the drover’s life, he still finds it hard to leave behind the wide-open spaces and return to city life.

The Diamantina in the song title refers to the Diamantina River, one of several large Queensland river systems that make their way towards Lake Eyre, in South Australia. Because the Lake Eyre basin is located entirely in desert and semi desert country, the rivers flow only intermittently following periods of heavy rain. For most of the time, the shallow river channels are dry and dusty, and Lake Eyre is an expansive salt plain.

By The Backstreet Boys. By Andreas Carlsson, Martin Sandberg, and Max Martin. Arranged by Rowena Harper. A Cappella,Barbershop,Pop. Octavo. 9 pages. Rowena Harper #5719549. Published by Rowena Harper (A0.762504).

Who said that Back Street Boys needed five people? Here's an arrangement that says that four boys would have done!
This pop song was originally written to cover quite a vocal range, and therefore aspects of the tune are also shared with solo segments that also feature baritone and tenor, plus a small solo for the bass so they wouldn't miss out. The arrangement features the expected and let's face it, much anticipated, key change.  It also includes a nice gentle finish which stays in keeping with the original song. This is a must-have in your a cappella repertoire - but will likely require leads to be able to sing harmony, unless parts are switched.

Purchasing allows printing of one copy, and one copy per singer is required.
Range (Lowest-Highest): Bass F#-B, Baritone D#-B, Lead E-F#, Tenor B-C#.
MIXED options: Baritone, Lead and Tenor are suitable for female voices.

This is a per copy price. Also available as a set of parts (four copies).

(Note: This sheet music is notated in barbershop format: Tenor (T.1) and Tenor (T.2) in treble clef , Baritone (B.1) and Bass (B.2) in bass clef. The Treble clef parts are sung an octave lower than written.)
