Composed by Scott S. Stewart. 20th Century,A Cappella,Blues,Instructional. 4 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6235499. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955825).

African-American writer and civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson is perhaps best known as the author of Lift Every Voice and Sing, written on the occasion of Lincoln’s birthday and now known as the Black national anthem.  He established himself as a writer during the Harlem Renaissance (the African-American cultural movement in New York City in the 1920’s) for his poems, novels and anthologies. This poem Sence You Went Away creates the narrative of one who bemoans the loss of a loved one.  His bluesy poem features a southern dialect style.  It is written for 4-part male ensemble (TTBB) and is performed a capella. Performance time:2:00+  It is an apt introduction to Johnson’s work and most befitting for study during Black History month.

By Queen. By Freddie Mercury and Frederick Mercury. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Rock. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #3628565. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856156).

One of Queen’s all-time great feel-good songs. It is impossible to sing or hear this song without getting an immediate boost to your mood. Go on, try singing ‘I am a sex-machine’ without smiling.

The arrangement follows the form of the original closely, including ending with a gradual fade-out. There is an optional cut if you don't feel like pretending to be Brian May on the guitar for the instrumental break, and an optional moment of a high 5th part, put in because a performer loved a particular guitar twiddle in the original.

Vocal ranges:
Tenor: B flat 3 – D5 (with alt note C3)
Lead: F3 – B flat 4 (with alt note C3)
Bari: F3 – G4 (with alt note C3)
Bass: F2 – F#4

Composed by Thomas Moore (1779-1852). Arranged by Donald A. Mills. A Cappella,Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Romantic Period. Octavo. 6 pages. Donald A Mills #18887. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928936).

It Was On a Fine Summer Morning, adapted from a song by Irishman Thomas Moore (1779-1852) called A Pretty Maid Milking Her Cow. This TTBB a cappella arrangement of the song will delight the listener. The original song, a ballad, was written several hundred years ago and is here presented with new words and harmonies. Years ago, singer Judy Garland sang a much different arrangement of this song called, A Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow, an arrangement containing both ballad and up-tempo elements. Composed by Philip Bliss, music and Horatio G. Spafford, and words. Arranged by Donald A. Mills. A Cappella,Christian,Concert,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 3 pages. Donald A Mills #4718759. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928976).

From Wikipedia:

This arrangement is for a ttbb chorus, a cappella.  It would require a chorus of middle to high capability.  It's a ballad appropriate for religious services and concert.

This hymn was written after traumatic events in Spafford's life. The first was the 1871 Great Chicago Fire, which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer and had invested significantly in property in the area of Chicago that was extensively damaged by the great fire). His business interests were further hit by the economic downturn of 1873, at which time he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the SS Ville du Havre.

In a late change of plan, he sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with a sea vessel, the Loch Earn, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, Saved alone …. Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.

Intended use: Christmas, Christmas Eve

Feature your pianists in addition to your vocalists with this TTBB and 4 hand piano arrangement of the well-known Christmas carol. The piano parts are challenging, great fun, and full of fast scales! The vocal parts are accessible in that the verses are arranged differently, but the refrain is always the same, making it possible to learn this piece rather quickly. A fun and flashy anthem to add to your Christmas repertoire, and your congregation/audience will love it!

Also available for SATB (four hands) - LCP0049 and SATB (one pianist) - LCP0126

NOTE: This audio recording is that of the SATB (four hands) version.

By Madness. By Labi Siffre. Arranged by Austin Ralphson. Pop. Octavo. 18 pages. Austin Ralphson #4775161. Published by Austin Ralphson (A0.563716).

Ska/pop band Madness recorded this song in 1981 and it has become a firm favourite, especially at weddings and anniversary parties. This arrangement avoids the obvious piano chords in the vocal parts, focusing more on melodic polyphony. It is not too difficult to put together and has exciting parts for all singers.

I've also done optional parts for the sax/guitar solo in the middle; these are provided in C (treble and bass clefs), B flat and E flat to cater for almost any solo instrument you have available to play it (possibly a choir member?). This solo should be loud and raucous! The piece still works perfectly well without, however. It is great to perform and to listen to for the audience. Enjoy!

SKU: A0.762504

By The Backstreet Boys. By Andreas Carlsson, Martin Sandberg, and Max Martin. Arranged by Rowena Harper. A Cappella,Barbershop,Pop. Octavo. 9 pages. Rowena Harper #5719549. Published by Rowena Harper (A0.762504).

Who said that Back Street Boys needed five people? Here's an arrangement that says that four boys would have done!
This pop song was originally written to cover quite a vocal range, and therefore aspects of the tune are also shared with solo segments that also feature baritone and tenor, plus a small solo for the bass so they wouldn't miss out. The arrangement features the expected and let's face it, much anticipated, key change.  It also includes a nice gentle finish which stays in keeping with the original song. This is a must-have in your a cappella repertoire - but will likely require leads to be able to sing harmony, unless parts are switched.

Purchasing allows printing of one copy, and one copy per singer is required.
Range (Lowest-Highest): Bass F#-B, Baritone D#-B, Lead E-F#, Tenor B-C#.
MIXED options: Baritone, Lead and Tenor are suitable for female voices.

This is a per copy price. Also available as a set of parts (four copies).

(Note: This sheet music is notated in barbershop format: Tenor (T.1) and Tenor (T.2) in treble clef , Baritone (B.1) and Bass (B.2) in bass clef. The Treble clef parts are sung an octave lower than written.)

SKU: A0.522344

Composed by Traditional Spiritual - circa 1840. Arranged by Paul A. Jorg. A Cappella,Spiritual,Traditional. Octavo. 5 pages. Paul A. Jorg #5971195. Published by Paul A. Jorg (A0.522344).

This arrangement is for 4-part male voices (TTBB) a cappella.  The melody is passed around to each part during the presentation, which makes it interesting to sing or to hear it sung.
This Spiritual was created before the Civil War, circa 1840. Mary Don't You Weep (alternately titled O Mary Don't You Weep, Oh Mary, Don't You Weep, Don't You Mourn, or variations thereof) is a Spiritual that originates from before the American Civil War – thus

it describes their origins among the enslaved, and it contains coded messages of hope and resistance.  The song tells the Biblical story of Mary of Bethany and her distraught pleas to Jesus to raise her brother Lazarus from the dead.  Other narratives relate to The Exodus and the Passage of the Red Sea, with the chorus proclaiming Pharaoh's army got drown-ded, and to God's rainbow covenant to Noah after the Great Flood.  There are many verses that developed over the years,  here are just a few.
