SKU: A0.943042

By Elvis Presley. By George David Weiss, Hugo Peretti, and Luigi Creatore. Arranged by Jonathan Kilhams. Rock. Octavo. 9 pages. Jonathan Kilhams #4798035. Published by Jonathan Kilhams (A0.943042).

About the piece

Can't Help Falling in Love is a 1961 song recorded by American singer Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961). It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc. (The melody is based on Plaisir d'amour, a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini). The song was initially written for a woman as Can't Help Falling in Love with Him, which explains the first and third line ending on in and sin rather than words rhyming with you. Can't Help Falling in Love was featured in Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii. During the following four decades, it has been recorded by numerous other artists, including Bob Dylan on his 1973 album Dylan, Tom Smothers, Swedish pop group A-Teens, and the British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the U.S. and UK charts.

Elvis Presley's version of the song topped the British charts in 1962, spending four weeks at no. 1. The single is certified Platinum by the RIAA, for US sales in excess of one million copies. In the United States, the song peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 behind Joey Dee and the Starliters' Peppermint Twist and went to No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for six weeks.

About the arrangement

This arrangement was inspired by the Elvis Presley version in 1962 and also the Pentatonix version recorded in 2017. It has been arranged for choirs that like to perform off by heart as the verse and chorus harmony are the same with very slight additions. The arrangement is for TTBB and piano and my thanks must go to Gareth Giles (pianist, organist, composer and arranger) who helped create the piano part for this arrangement.

Composed by Alan Silvestri and Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. A Cappella. Octavo. 12 pages. Mark R Lewis #6566881. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1001566).

Disney's 2002 movie Lilo & Stitch tells the story of an alien experiment that crash-lands on Earth and must learn how to behave himself. The story is set in Hawai'i and as such incorporates Hawai'ian culture into the story frequently. The movie opens with the song Hawai'ian Roller Coaster Ride, performed by Mark Keali'I Ho'Omal. This arrangement by Mark Lewis is for six part Men's Ensemble, including a vocal percussion part. It was written as an assignment for Pentatonix's Fall 2021 arranging class.

With a call and response feel, the incorporation of Hawai'ian language lyrics, and a simple vocal percussion part, this arrangement is ideal for a group of intermediate singers who are looking at joining the world of a cappella music. The quick lyrics and fun style provides a bit of a challenge that should not be overwhelming. You can find other arrangements by Mark R Lewis at http://www.makingjoyfulmusic.com/storefront.html.
