Choral Choir,Choral (TTBB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1312084 By Michael Jackson. By Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett. Arranged by Brevis Minim. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Pop. 25 pages. Brevis Minim #900981. Published by Brevis Minim (A0.1312084). A tour de force that, I hope, encompasses the full excitement and dynamic range of the original. Not for the faint-hearted, and not a quick learn. Also check the range, as it ascends to C5 in the top down to a rumbling D2 in the bass. However, I run along the lines that if I can get to the top and bottom, then dedicated sections will also be able to do so.  Complex splits in parts after the key change make this challenging to pull off, and adding in the body percussion makes this a real showstopper in a festival or competition. Melody bounces between top tenor and baritone, with harmonies provided by seconds and bass.

Choral Choir,Choral (TTBB Chorus) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1516691 By Mark R Lewis. By Mark R Lewis. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. Contemporary,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred. 11 pages. Mark R Lewis #1090864. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1516691). The text for “Where Is Hope?” is adapted from the Lamentations Chapter 3 and is an expression of hopelessness, almost depression. The text starts out with the singer feeling lost, alone, and in pain. As the song progresses, the singer remembers God’s promises to always help and be with us. By the end of the song, the singer has regained hope and is triumphant and comforted. First and foremost, the music is very much intended to support the lyrical content of this song.Throughout the song, the key switches from major to minor (both parallel and relative) quite frequently. The piece starts with a very free section with almost no tempo alternating between just voices and simple piano accompaniment. The middle sections have stricter tempo and more active piano accompaniment and the final section increases in speed and excitement with piano truly accompanying the voices instead of just mostly mirroring them. Throughout the piece, meter always follows word stress so there are a surprising number of time signature changes with lyrical clarity always being more important than strict meter. All that said, the rhythms are not too difficult throughout the song and while there are some dissonant harmonies, the musical lines themselves should be singable by most intermediate choirs. The most challenging voice part is probably the tenor 1 line which spends a lot of time in the higher ranges. There are a few optional parts for the tenor 1s that will truly test the range of the singers.
