In 2019, The Vancouver Men's Chorus asked their longtime pianist, Stephen Smith, to write them a custom arrangement of Free Man in Paris for an upcoming concert. Somewhat surprisingly, he responded with an a cappella version of the Joni Mitchell song, which is famous for its guitar-heavy instrumentals. But the arrangement worked a treat, and ended up being a favourite of many of the singers that term, and a hit with the audiences for whom they sang it. If performed with rhythmic precision and drive, and careful balance between tune and (vocal) accompaniment, it will be a success for your ensemble too!
