Instrumental Duet,Piano Instrumental Duet,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.945463 Composed by John Stepan Zamecnik. Arranged by William Dick, Kiyoshi Tamagawa. 20th Century,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 94 pages. Mastery for Strings Press #5946377. Published by Mastery for Strings Press (A0.945463). John Stepan Zamecnik (1872-1953) enjoyed a substantial career as a silent film music composer, culminating in his scoring the motion picture Wings in 1927, which won the first Academy Award for Best Picture. He was also an accomplished violinist. These twelve short pieces for violin and piano originally appeared in 1922 as Violin Compositions in the First Position, Vol. 1, published by the Sam Fox Publishing Company. Created for teaching purposes, they are much more than études or exercises-they are melodic miniatures that capture various moods, rhythms and styles with as much charm as Zamecnik’s best film music. They provide fresh and engaging concert repertoire for emerging string players, both as solos and string ensemble pieces. It is with these purposes in mind that the current edition including an optional second string part has been created. Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1205111 Composed by Gilad Cohen. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. 217 pages. Gilad Cohen #803298. Published by Gilad Cohen (A0.1205111). Written with the theme of family in mind, Moonrhymes is based on nursery rhymes from different cultures. The piece is comprised of three movements (, in addition to an introduction and a finale, all played without a break): each of them focuses on a traditional song from a different origin: the English-Irish “Danny Boy,†the Latin “A La Nanita Nana,†and the Israeli-Yiddish “Numi Numi.† While such tunes have been sung as lullabies for many years, their lyrics are often more bleak than what might seem appropriate for bedtime. My treatment of these melodies takes them thus to mysterious, reflective, and dark places, using folk elements from various cultures. Moonrhymes plays with the question of what rhyming could mean in instrumental music.  Literal rhymes feature similarities in sound between words: the endings of rhyming words usually sound identical, while the beginnings are different.  Likewise, the themes of the piece are very similar to the original tunes, but each carries a significant musical difference in pitch, rhythm etc.  Additionally, many moments in the piece “rhyme†with one another:  Accompaniment figurations reoccur while supporting different tunes (such as a repeated arrpegiated minor-7th chord), sounds and textures repeat through the piece (such as “glassy†chordsin the violins using harmonics), and musical themes float again and again into the surface (such as the melody of “Rock-a-bye Baby,†another popular lullaby that features disturbing lyrics and serves as a transition between the movements). In the finale, all tunes—and cultures—join together: The Yiddish-based “Numi Numiâ€, with its Phyrygian mode, is heard in the bass and provides the foundation for “Danny Boy†an its iconic English-American useof the pentatonic scale, while also supporting figurations from both “Nanita†(featuring a highly-embellished minor-scale Spanish melody) and “Rock-a-bye Baby†(whose sweet melody is disguised under darker harmonies).

Piano Trio Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1228096 Composed by Fesca, Alexander (1820-1849). Arranged by Kamada, Mikio. Romantic Period. 9 pages. ACORDO Sheet Music #824092. Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.1228096). Fesca, Alexander Ernst (1820-1849) was a German composer. He received his musical education from his father, a composer himself (Fesca, Friedrich Ernst), and showed great promise from a young age. Unfortunately, both father and son died young, with Friedrich passing away at 37 and Alexander at 28. Alexander composed chamber music, including six piano trios and two piano quartets, and the second movement (Adagio ma non tanto) of his Piano Trio, Op.12 is a particularly wonderful piece. Upon hearing the opening piano solo, one can't help but imagine the story that the piece is trying to convey. The melody, filled with happiness, appears in three different parts, and the interplay between them is enjoyable to play. The passionate and intense middle section serves to accentuate the happiness of the latter half. This is a piece that we highly recommend performing. This is an arrangement for Violin, Viola & Piano.
