The two basic pulses are played by different groups of instruments and passed from one group to another, but never ceasing, even as our heartbeats never cease as long as there is life in us. Over these fundamental patterns are built little phrases or solos for the various instruments, including conversations between pairs of instruments - first the timpani and tubular bells, later the marimba and xylophone, and finally the conga drums and the snare drum – these conversations represent various interactions among different groups of life on planet earth.
