A grooving mallet ensemble piece with drum set, Cumbia de la Alegria contains parts for a variety of skill levels. Players 1 through 4 play repeating interlocking licks that develop into a cumbia tune.  Bass and chords parts are given in bass and treble clefs, with two and four mallet options for the chords player.  The optional solo section in C minor invites performers to explore their own musical ideas.

This arrangement of Veracruz, a traditional Mexican tune, evokes the lively atmosphere of a cafe combo.  Veracruz can be performed on two marimbas with two players on each instrument, or may be easily expanded to more players by doubling parts.  The drum set part is a cumbia groove.
