Percussion Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.1099614 Composed by Andrew Ardizzoia. Contemporary. Score and parts. 57 pages. Heartland Marimba #703447. Published by Heartland Marimba (A0.1099614). New Resources is an exploration of the compositional techniques commonly found in African drumming.  A simple four-bar pattern is subjected to a number of processes and permutations, creating increasingly complex polyrhythms and a sense of large-scale acceleration. These passages, which are played on wood instruments, are interrupted by shorter sections that involve skin and metal timbres. Composed in 1999, New Resources is one of the few pieces from my undergraduate that still sees the light of day.  In 2004, my collaborative partner Lisa Rie used the music to accompany a dance piece entitled Delta Eco, which celebrates the rich flora and fauna of California’s San Joaquin River Delta. New Resources has had performances throughout California and Arizona, and in 2005 it was played by William Moersch and the University of Illinois Percussion Ensemble. ~A.A.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025413 Composed by Jehad Choate. 20th Century,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and parts. 67 pages. Jehad Choate #4781401. Published by Jehad Choate (A0.1025413). The Man Who Laughs is a musical portrait of Batman’s greatest adversary, the Joker (Detective Comics). This piece draws inspiration from both comic book sources and live-action performances on film and television. It features five continuous sections:One Bad Day: (Page 1) A prelude showcasing a lush melodic theme that ascribes the derangement of a normal man to the dramatic events of one bad day.How I Got These Scars: (Page 10) Introduces additional thematic material at a frantically energized pace to contrive an identity from a mind fragmented by hitting rock bottom. Why So Serious: (Page 17) Punctuates the Joker’s aggressive resolutions with a reoccurring two note motif.A Dance with the Devil: (Page 33) A fleshed-out unity of previous materials in a romantic waltz-like style.Giggling in a Corner and Bleeding: (Page 47) A dynamic and provocative bout of hysteria that challenges the speed and dexterity of a player in the same way the Joker challenges the ideological resolve of Batman. By the end of this section, the audience might feel like they have been attacked by the Joker, influenced by him, or may have actually been the Joker all along.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1328234 By Keith Anderson. By Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by Keith Anderson. Chamber,Contemporary,Instructional. 48 pages. Keith Anderson #916224. Published by Keith Anderson (A0.1328234). Danse Bacchanale is taken from the 19th-century opera Samson and Delilah by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The opera tells the story of the Biblical account of Samson and Delilah from the book of Judges. Samson has been given unnatural strength and has become a mortal enemy of the Babylonians. Delilah seeks to seduce Samson in an effort to get him to reveal the source of his strength, allowing the Babylonians to capture and humiliate him. The Danse Bacchanale represents this interaction between Samson and Delilah, telling the story of their relationship, the seduction, and the eventual capture. It ends with the “bacchanaleâ€, a wildly celebratory dance.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.939390 Composed by Adam Grim. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. Score and parts. 50 pages. Adam B. Grim #6210963. Published by Adam B. Grim (A0.939390). The COVID Awakening is a marimba quartet for two 5.0 octave instruments. This piece is inspired by minimalism and minimalist compositional techniques combined with layering found in West African drumming, though it is not the only source of this specific technique. It was written during the beginning of the summer of 2020, when the Coronavirus, COVID-19, had started its grips on the United States in the forms of illness, death, and economic and emotional distress. This piece reflects on these early feelings of quarantines and sheltering in place, and using the techniques listed above the listeners are pulled in to listen between the notes. These reflections are found not in the music itself, but is different with every listen. The listeners’ ears will venture as they wish, and make this piece new with every performance, even though the notes and rhythms never change. Instrumentation: Two 5.0 octave marimbas, though only one marimba needs to be the full range. Marimba 1 can be a much smaller instrument if necessary. I’d suggest using rubber/latex mallets. Unless the performance is in a reasonably dry hall, this articulation and tone benefit does wonders for this piece. Each player needs only 2 mallets.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1350568 Composed by Bjork Gudmundsdottir. Arranged by David R. Peoples. Classical,Contemporary,Pop,Rock. 87 pages. Bluesilhouettes Music #935388. Published by Bluesilhouettes Music (A0.1350568). If you had a day, and all you listened to was Björk, you’d have a fascinating day. The experience would be marked by a kaleidoscope of varying styles from pop, avant-garde, or jazz. Is it mainstream - probably not. But, the artist is definitely recognizable (as a name), appearing across multiple genres. As a source of background to her song ‘Come to Me,’ I borrowed a palindromic idea exploited by Radiohead in their ‘Pyramid song...’ if we truly expand a swing feel to a twelve-eight meter and extend the pattern across two measures - the eighth notes would provide a total of twenty-four possibilities - and as in this work you get four, five, six, five, four a palindrome on 45654 that (when added) equals twenty-four.This version is not a cover. Fragments of musical elements are translated into the ensemble. While occasionally exhibiting moments of dance, the composition evolves into a more profound expression, capitalizing on the musical possibilities of a percussion ensemble. This arrangement was crafted for the University of North Georgia’s percussion ensemble, directed by Dr. Steven Walker.Full mock-up digital audio: available here

Four ForcesReviewsScherzohttps://scherzo.es/badajoz-vanguardias-lugarenas/Periodico Extremadurahttps://www.elperiodicoextremadura.com/noticias/badajoz/fuerzas_1214372.html NotesThis work was commissioned by Extremadura Orchestra for Percussion and Chamber orchestra. It has two movements. The first one has been done for mallets and the second one was built on a base of a drums work (GEA).The duration of those movements is 26 minutes, being around 11 minutes the first and 15 minutes the second one.The chamber music is formed by:Woodwind quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn & Bassoon)Brasswind quintet (Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, Horn, Trombone & Tuba)Strings orchestraThree firsts violinsThree seconds violinsThree violasTwo cellosFor the second movement is high recommendable to enlarge the strings, a good number of musician could be doubling.I. Strong ForcesThe work is inspired by the four fundamental forces of nature. These forces explain any phenomena which can be produced in the universe.Throughout all composition, it is latent the mathematic construction based in the series Fibonacci. In the first of the movements, Fibonacci's series is present in the notes' sequence that forms the series of 16 sounds and it is going to be present throughout the whole work. This series is taking form along the movement and it is getting melody and harmony.Although it is far away from the sonata form, as we know it in its period of highest glory, it takes elements of it and updates to our days. In this movement, we can find sonata form elements as the exposition, development, transitions or coda. The central part of the first movement becomes in the slow movement, being more intimate and lyrical, free of the serials ties although it uses resources before cited -now called common practice-.The movement finish with a short re-exposition that concludes with the virtuosic of the soloist doubling the series and adding more tension until conforming the series in its full whole.II. Weak ForcesIt is the most tribal of both movements. Its structure is more complex and in it, we also can find clear reminiscences to the sonata form.We can divide the movement into two big blocks. The first one is formed for the introduction and sections one and two.IntroducciónIt is based in one ostinato of three notes where the accent is changing provoking unsymmetric, this ostinato represents the nucleus of our existence. The piccolo and the trombone introduce us to the human element representing the two elements that form the development of the whole movement. The two elements of thematics are taken from the series, the first one is easily recognizable because it appears in his primary form.First section & cadenzaIn this movement, the rhythm, the melody, and the harmony are based on the sequence of Fibonacci. As the theme ostinato of the soloist as the melody is formed under the rhythm of 1, 2, 3 and 5. This section leads us to the second section with a clear mode of cadence. In the cadenza, the elements of the rhythm are varied freely with an accompaniment of the Spring Drum.DevelopmentIt is formed by two Rondo sub-sections in which the solo part has been created through the mirror technique. Both sections have the next form:Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(minor)+A)Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(major)+A)First section & CodaThe movement ends with the repetition of the first section and the final code.
