Percussion Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.784338 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Score and parts. 38 pages. Slide Ride #5288673. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784338). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake! The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent. As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.·     Choose a tempo.·     Choose a dynamic.·     Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes. The variations are endless! If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys. All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Percussion Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.597222 Composed by Franz von Suppe. Arranged by Flávio Régis Cunha. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 16 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #4593577. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597222). Die schöne Galathée (The Beautiful Galatea) is an operetta in two acts by Franz von Suppé to a German libretto by the composer and 'Poly Henrion' (the pseudonym of Leonhard Kohl von Kohlenegg). This arrangement of Einmal möcht' Ich so verliebt sein (one aria of the operetta) for orchestra and soprano voice is a very good Encore or an orchestral piece for your repertoire.Flavio Regis Cunha is a pianist, conductor and composer from São Paulo - Brasil. He is currently finishing his doctorate at Mackenzie Presbyterian University where he works as conductor of the Mackenzie University Orchestra and resident composer. For more arrangements like this, works by commission or for any questions you can contact Flavio Regis Cunha at his facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/flavioregiscunhaIn the early 1860s, French operettas by Jacques Offenbach were first presented in Vienna. Franz von Suppé was obliged to compete with them by taking the time-honored traditions of Vienna and combining it with the new style of Offenbach. Die schöne Galathée was Franz von Suppé's first critical success. The sculptor Pygmalion has fallen madly in love with his statue of Galathée and accordingly does not want to sell it to Mydas, a patron of the arts. Instead he prays to Venus, the goddess of the love, that the statue be brought to life. The wish is granted but Galathée turns out to be a very independent-minded creature. She is unfaithful to Pygmalion with his servant Ganymed (because he is much more pleasing to her than Pygmalion) and does not reject Mydas, who offers her jewelry. When Pygmalion catches Galathée in a compromising situation, he successfully implores Venus to turn her back into stone. The jewelry offered by Mydas is also turned into stone, but the whole statue is sold to him.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025413 Composed by Jehad Choate. 20th Century,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and parts. 67 pages. Jehad Choate #4781401. Published by Jehad Choate (A0.1025413). The Man Who Laughs is a musical portrait of Batman’s greatest adversary, the Joker (Detective Comics). This piece draws inspiration from both comic book sources and live-action performances on film and television. It features five continuous sections:One Bad Day: (Page 1) A prelude showcasing a lush melodic theme that ascribes the derangement of a normal man to the dramatic events of one bad day.How I Got These Scars: (Page 10) Introduces additional thematic material at a frantically energized pace to contrive an identity from a mind fragmented by hitting rock bottom. Why So Serious: (Page 17) Punctuates the Joker’s aggressive resolutions with a reoccurring two note motif.A Dance with the Devil: (Page 33) A fleshed-out unity of previous materials in a romantic waltz-like style.Giggling in a Corner and Bleeding: (Page 47) A dynamic and provocative bout of hysteria that challenges the speed and dexterity of a player in the same way the Joker challenges the ideological resolve of Batman. By the end of this section, the audience might feel like they have been attacked by the Joker, influenced by him, or may have actually been the Joker all along.

The Entertaining Carpenter is a humorous percussion duo which uses a combination of a snare drum with carpentry tools and materials. The players say jokes, provide visual humor, and play in a rudimental style on both the traditional instrument and the non-traditional instruments. This is a fun piece to put together, and is very visual. Perfect for the students who are into a mix of theater and percussion chamber music! The video performance is of myself and Noah Floyd (premiered at Ohio Northern University in 2019). .

Percussion Ensemble - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1013927 Composed by Tsoof Baras. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards,World. Score and parts. 15 pages. Tsoof Baras #6663539. Published by Tsoof Baras (A0.1013927). Players - 4Instrumentation - Snare drum, Concert toms, Kick drum.I wrote this piece for one of my school percussion ensembles trying to fill a gap in percussion ensemble drumming pieces. In my search for great pieces, some were too hard, others too easy. So, I decided to write my own.The piece also draws inspiration from funk and Taiko drumming. It also pays homage to the great percussion composer Kevin Tuck and his piece Summon the Spirits, who has created drumming pieces that are the staple of percussion music all around the world. As always, the aim is that the ensemble has fun and enjoys the groove. Coming from a long background of Latin and African drumming styles, my compositions place a heavy emphasis on feeling the rhythm and hearing all the parts lock in, rather than being accurate.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.984036 Composed by Andrew Charles Naylor and Roma Connie Waterman. Arranged by Jilly Cooke. Contemporary. Score and parts. 72 pages. Jilly Paige Cooke #5797561. Published by Jilly Paige Cooke (A0.984036). Paul Williams's beloved tune from the Jim Henson Company's timeless Christmas special Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas is now available as an arrangement for percussion ensemble!Originally performed in December 2019 by the University of Iowa School of Music's percussion studio, under the direction of Dr. Dan Moore, this lively, jazzy arrangement was lovingly crafted by Iowa Percussion's own Jilly Cooke, a music education major who was a junior at the time of this arrangement's premiere. As a lifelong fan of the Muppets (and a promising aspiring puppeteer herself), Cooke cleverly weaves in numerous references to various tunes and styles that have influenced her musical preferences and career (with notes in the score to bring out these musical quotes). Beginning with a faithful adaptation of the original gospel-waltz ballad feel from the TV special, the arrangement swiftly transitions into a toe-tapping, New Orleans-style second-line groove with a solo section and a witty trade-off section in the middle.Instrumentation of 8 players includes: Vibraphone 1 (preferably includes E3), Vibraphone 2, Marimba 1/Accordion (optional use of amplified Melodica), Marimba 2 (preferably includes F2), Bass Marimba (premiere performance used Bass MalletKAT, optional use of Bass Guitar and/or Keyboard Patch), Piano, Drum Set, and Auxiliary Percussion (includes Mark Tree, Suspended Cymbal, Triangle, and important gospel-style Tambourine).

Strong ForcesThe work is inspired by the four fundamental forces of nature. These forces explain any phenomena which can be produced in the universe.Throughout all composition, it is latent the mathematic construction based in the series Fibonacci. In the first of the movements, Fibonacci's series is present in the notes' sequence that forms the series of 16 sounds and it is going to be present throughout the whole work. This series is taking form along the movement and it is getting melody and harmony.Although it is far away from the sonata form, as we know it in its period of highest glory, it takes elements of it and updates to our days. In this movement, we can find sonata form elements as the exposition, development, transitions or coda. The central part of the first movement becomes in the slow movement, being more intimate and lyrical, free of the serials ties although it uses resources before cited -now called common practice-.The movement finish with a short re-exposition that concludes with the virtuosic of the soloist doubling the series and adding more tension until conforming the series in its full whole.II. Weak ForcesIt is the most tribal of both movements. Its structure is more complex and in it, we also can find clear reminiscences to the sonata form.We can divide the movement into two big blocks. The first one is formed for the introduction and sections one and two.IntroducciónIt is based in one ostinato of three notes where the accent is changing provoking unsymmetric, this ostinato represents the nucleus of our existence. The piccolo and the trombone introduce us to the human element representing the two elements that form the development of the whole movement. The two elements of thematics are taken from the series, the first one is easily recognizable because it appears in his primary form.First section & cadenzaIn this movement, the rhythm, the melody, and the harmony are based on the sequence of Fibonacci. As the theme ostinato of the soloist as the melody is formed under the rhythm of 1, 2, 3 and 5. This section leads us to the second section with a clear mode of cadence. In the cadenza, the elements of the rhythm are varied freely with an accompaniment of the Spring Drum.DevelopmentIt is formed by two Rondo sub-sections in which the solo part has been created through the mirror technique. Both sections have the next form:Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(minor)+A)Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(major)+A)First section & CodaThe movement ends with the repetition of the first section and the final code.
