Celebrations is a mixed percussion ensemble octet utilizing both keyboard and non keyboard percussion instruments. It was written in memory of Ohio Band Director, Dan Meeks. In life we celebrate many occasions: birthdays, holidays, vacations, winning seasons, winning the lottery, anniversaries, marriages and births, just to name a few. But at times of loss we can also celebrate those who have left an indelible mark on us. Parents, mentors and teachers fit into this category. This piece is written to celebrate learning and though who guided us on our path. Specifically this piece is dedicated in memory of Dan Meeks, a teacher, band director, percussionist, husband and dad who touched so many lives teaching and guiding his family, friends and students through part of their lives. We are forever in debt to people like Dan and celebrate them. Dan would often say, Just Have Fun! This piece is written with that joy and love of life in mind. Thanks Dan, you always made it fun. Stardust Inferno is a soca written for a steel band with the following instrumentation: Lead (Low C), Double Tenor, Double Seconds, Cello, Bass, and Drum Set. The motives found in this were written on a lead pan first, and then added variations and a solo section. The bass voices have a time to shine with their own melody, the double tenor and double seconds add harmony, and the drum set has group hits written in, rather than having a repeated pattern with slash notation on top. This was a fun piece to write, and is one of my favorites in my works for pan!

Written for a 10 year old boy named Damon Young who was one of my first really fine percussionists.  It is written for snare drum, two sets of concert tenor drums and Bass drum.  This composition uses three sets of sixteenth notes on a beginner level.  This is great for a drum ensemble that is learning sixteenth note patterns.If you do not have concerts tenor drums, different pitched snare drums or toms may be substituted.

It is named after the edelweiss, a white flower found high in the Alps. The song was created for the 1959 Broadway production of The Sound of Music, as a song for the character Captain Georg von Trapp (originated by the performer Theodore Bikel). In the musical, Captain von Trapp and his family sing this song during the concert near the end of Act II, as a statement of Austrian patriotism in the face of the pressure put upon him to join the navy of Nazi Germany following the Anschluss (Nazi annexation of their homeland). It is also Captain von Trapp's subliminal goodbye to his beloved homeland, using the flower as a symbol of his loyalty to Austria. In the 1965 film adaptation, the song is also sung by the Captain earlier in the film when he rediscovers music with his children. It was the last song ever written by Oscar Hammerstein II, prior to his death in August, 1960. This arrangement is written for a percussion ensemble, featuring glockenspiel, marimba, snare, bass, triangle, tambourine, and timpani.

This is One of Four Percussion suites (Part II) that can either be played with the other three portions or by itself or even each part inside this portion of the suite for performance.  Included with the score and each instrument part are the entire instrumentation, storyboards, and a character Bio Page.  Why is there a character Bio page and storyboard you ask?  This suite combined with the others can also be performed as a contemporary dance piece following the story of the short story (which is in the public domain) written by Bram Stroker as a prelude to Dracula entitled Dracula's Curse.  Instrumentation for each portion can range from Orchestral Bass Drum, Snare Drum, and Marimba Parts to drum-set to Boom Whackers.  Note: Most of the Marimba parts and some of the Vibeâ??s parts are written for Grand Marimba, these could also be played on a piano if need be.  Same with the Vibes.  Each mallet part could also be split so that 2-3 people play it instead of a more advanced player playing with 4 mallets.  This would be the same for the Boom Whacker sections as well.

Published by Frank Pugh (A0.942726).  I wrote Nuevo-Nueve for an ensemble of nine new first-time percussion students.  Nuevo meaning new or different, and Nueve meaning nine, seemed to be a good title for the piece.  Going along with the concept of nine, the song is written in nine bar phrases and has a total of 99 measures as well.  It uses simple and repetitive patterns to introduce students to the instruments that are utilized in the piece.  Out of the nine students that I originally wrote it for, six were wind players and the other three had never read music.  They had great success with it (and a lot of fun, too!).     The first four parts are all listed as generic mallet parts, and all work pretty well with whatever mallet instruments that you have available.  Part 3 and 4 double each other, but part 4 is in bass clef.  They are written on the same sheet.  If you have the equipment for it, I recommend the following instrumentation: Part 1:  bells or marimba Part 2:  vibraphone Part 3:  marimba Part 4: (optional, bass clef, doubles part 3):  bass guitar, keyboard, or mallet controller Part 5:  hi-hat cymbal, suspended cymbal, mounted tambourine Part 6:  guiro, castanets, maracas, two pitched toms Part 7:  drum set Part 8:  suspended cymbal, china cymbal, splash cymbal, triangle Part 9:  concert bass drum, cabasaBe sure to check out my other small ensemble arrangements here on Sheet Music Plus, and thanks for taking a look!

Uncle Jesse on the sitcom Full House, did a cover of the song with his group Jesse and the Rippers.  The song was performed on the sitcom three times.  Written for percussion ensemble, this arrangement will sweep you with nostalgia for the 90s!

Written and performed in 2016 for marimba, lead (tenor) pan, cello pans, electric guitar (finger picking style), bass guitar (tab included), and drum set. Quite a fun piece to play, and it will definitely get your audience on their feet!
