This is One of Four Percussion suites (Part II) that can either be played with the other three portions or by itself or even each part inside this portion of the suite for performance.  Included with the score and each instrument part are the entire instrumentation, storyboards, and a character Bio Page.  Why is there a character Bio page and storyboard you ask?  This suite combined with the others can also be performed as a contemporary dance piece following the story of the short story (which is in the public domain) written by Bram Stroker as a prelude to Dracula entitled Dracula's Curse.  Instrumentation for each portion can range from Orchestral Bass Drum, Snare Drum, and Marimba Parts to drum-set to Boom Whackers.  Note: Most of the Marimba parts and some of the Vibeâ??s parts are written for Grand Marimba, these could also be played on a piano if need be.  Same with the Vibes.  Each mallet part could also be split so that 2-3 people play it instead of a more advanced player playing with 4 mallets.  This would be the same for the Boom Whacker sections as well.

Gebbie (A0.1031575). 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry. The Coffee Suite is three movement work based on the different levels of caffeine in different types of coffee. The first movement, caffeinated, is bright and upbeat; the second movement, half-calf; is disjointed; while the final movement, decaf, is quite mellow. Though the first marimba part requires four mallets, the patterns are simple, making this piece perfect for early intermediate percussion groups. Duration: approx. 5 min.

Han River Fantasy Suite is based on and inspired by Nash’s first trip to Vietnam in 2007.   Commissioned by a percussion and horn duo, it is a five movement chamber concerto with mvts 1 and 2 performed continuously, as are mvts 4 and 5, giving the aural perception of 3 movements.  Mvt. 1, Dawning and mvt. 2, Morning Power Walks stem from Nash’s morning routine during that particular journey as he walked along the Han River in Danang, Vietnam every morning.  Mvt 1 is a slow and lyrical prelude, with vibraphone and chimes serving as melodic and colorful supporting lines for the horn solo and that immediately proceeds to Mvt. 2, a fast and somewhat fiery movement, alluding to a fast power walk. Mvt. 3. Moonlight Stroll is slow and lyrical, highlighted by bowed vibes and triangle being struck while placed on a timpani during a glissando in the middle section.  Mvt. 4, Boat Ride is a fast and dance-like, composed in compound duple meter and transitions to mvt. 5, Going Home, in a slightly faster simple quadruple meter.

While each movement's title describes the story, the quartet includes program notes to give more detail - and can be optionally read as narration between movements. This suite will give percussionists the chance to explore the world of multi-percussion. While the quartet is centered on Xylophone, 2 Marimbas, and Vibraphone, each player is given the opportunity to use various other accessory instruments to help paint the picture.

This piece is ideally suited for the Marimba Workshop (Pty) Ltd marimbas.www.marimbaworkshop.co.za  It was arranged for the Goede Hoop Marimba Band to be performed at the 2016 Education Africa International Marimba & Steelpan Festival in the Strictly Classical Category where the composer for this category for that year was Antonio Vivaldi. This performance has gone viral on YouTube.  These young girls were aged between 11 and 13 at the time. It is written for African diatonic marimbas in C with an African feel but can be played on a variety of different instruments. Feel free to roll (measured or unmeasured) on the long notes.Whenever I teach this arrangement my students fall in love with Vivaldi and his music. The medley consists of music from Vivaldi's Four Seasons: Spring and Winter and his famous Gloria.
