Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1441062 By Keith Terrett. By Francisco Tarrega. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 12 pages. Keith Terrett #1021041. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1441062). Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra) is a classical guitar piece composed in Málaga by Spanish composer and guitarist Francisco Tárrega. It requires the tremolo technique and is often performed by advanced players. The piece was written for and dedicated to Tárrega's patron Concepción Gómez de Jacoby in 1899, commemorating their visit to the Alhambra palace and fortress complex in Granada, Spain. It was originally titled Improvisación ¡A Granada! Cantiga Árabe. It became known through an early 20th-century publication edited by Tárrega and dedicated as an homage to the French guitarist Alfred Cottin.Performance notesThe piece showcases a challenging guitar tremolo, wherein a single melody note is plucked consecutively by the ring, middle and index fingers in such rapid succession that the result is an illusion of one long sustained note. The thumb plays an arpeggio-pattern accompaniment simultaneously. Many who have heard the piece but not seen it performed mistake it for a duet. The A-section of the piece is written in A-minor and the B-section is written in the parallel major (A-major).Arrangements:Ruggiero Ricci arranged this piece for solo violin and often performed it as an encore.Chris Freeman and John Shaw recorded the song for their album Chris Freeman and John Shaw (May 1981, EMI Custom Records YPRX 1828, MAC 126).Nana Mouskouri recorded a vocal version for her 1989 album Classical. Sarah Brightman recorded a re-adapted vocal version for her album Classics.Alex Jacobowitz frequently performs a version of the song on his marimba and xylophone. He recorded it for several of his albums: Spanish Rosewood (1996), The Art of Xylos (2002), and Aria (2010).Luiza Borac arranged this piece for solo piano on her 2014 CD Chants Nostalgiques (Avie AV-2316).Xavi Ganjam made a special arrangement for sitar on his EP Soham (2019, Ganjam Records, Spain).Italian violist Marco Misciagna published the arrangement of this piece for solo viola.Soundtrack use:Recuerdos de la Alhambra has been used as title or incidental music in many films, including the soundtrack for René Clément's Forbidden Games (as played by Narciso Yepes), for The Killing Fields (under the title Étude as performed by Mike Oldfield), and in the films Sideways and Margaret.Performed and arranged by Jonathon Coudrille, it was used as the title music for the British television series Out of Town and a version performed by Pepe Romero was used as incidental music in The Sopranos episode Luxury Lounge. Gideon Coe on BBC Radio 6Music uses this tune as a musical background at approximately the half-way point of his evening weekday show. A sung version appears in the Studio Ghibli film When Marnie Was There. It is also the theme used for Philip II of Spain in the 4X strategy game Civilization VI, with the track progressing from a simple guitar arrangement to an entire orchestral performance as Spain advances through the ages. The theme was part of the soundtrack and storyline for the eponymous 2018 Korean television series Memories of the Alhambra.

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1021517 Composed by Victor Rebullida. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 14 pages. Victor Rebullida #6055667. Published by Victor Rebullida (A0.1021517). Recorded by Alberto Royo in CD Mistúra. Música para guitarra. Cuatro autores contemporáneos aragoneses. Edited by Delicias Discográficas 2001. Reference DCD-28. More information about the CD: alberto.guitarra@gmail.comGioco is a five part piece: Allegro leggiero; tpo. giusto Triste e intenso; poco rubato Scherzando Adagio meditativo Allegro agitato The author wrote:Gioco, an Italian word meaning game, is the title of this guitar work composed in 1994.Gioco is a work of current aesthetic, atonal, built however on a structure as classic as that of a Sonata, of great conciseness and clarity and brief duration. It consists of five movements in which the former has a simple, school sonata shape, with two well-identifiable themes, one ethereal based on sets of bells and harmonics and another choppy, contrasting, in parallel ninth intervals, which are developed and subsequently reexposed at the end of the movement. The second movement is a slow time when the resonance of arpeggiated sounds is important. As will happen in the fourth half, the music conveys a sense of freedom, almost improvisation resulting from its unsympted writing and the irregularity of the measure. The third is a Scherzo in which humorous character is accentuated by the rapid descending and ascending glissandi. No less grotesque is the contrasting quote of Gaspar Sanz's Spaniard played in a singular way as will be seen in the interpretation, suddenly interrupted by the glissandi. The fourth is another slow movement in which resonances are also the center. Here you resort to obtaining a particular, harmonic sound similar to the sound of a gong, by placing paper clip on the three boards of the guitar. The fifth and final time is live movement in the form of a purr in which the different episodes are quotes from the themes appeared in the previous movements. The player says about this work: Work dated in 1994, virtuoso and contrasting, of resounding accessibility, not intending to reach the audience using easy resources but an admirable capacity for communication, Gioco is divided into five movements in which varied colours and textures occur and almost all the abundant classical and contemporary timbric resources of the guitar are exploited with intelligence, (controlled challenges, blows on the board, metallic vibration of a clip...), In this work one of the outstanding findings of its author is the alternative use in the Scherzando of his contemporary language and two recognizable literal quotations of the Aragonese Baroque guitarist Gaspar Sanz, which appear softly in an ironic and evocative loudness. Justino Losada wrote this review:Gioco, represents a continuous game of sonorities of very rich timbric nuances as well as an exacerbated game of frets (such as in its 3rd movement Scherzando), and abundant contemporary resources such as the microtonal vicinity of the detuned passages or the blows on the box for our interpreter to show of his skills, a task that although complicated he knows how to perform perfectly coming out of all difficulties. Rebullida's language is not simple, but the composer is clearly aware of the difficulties to reach a large audience, and to do so he polishes his language by seeking an exchange between modern and ancient sonorities in a continuous game creating a climate of warm and direct communication. Solo Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028891 Composed by Scott A. Niebauer. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Ponticello Music #4364608. Published by Ponticello Music (A0.1028891). A suite of short pieces for solo guitar intended to capture a unique yet popular idiosyncratic sound. Some of these are new works, some have been re-worked from older ideas. They all incorporate the idea of popular rock style guitar music being combined with standard classical guitar technique and notation.Andante Tremolo creates an eerie yet nostalgic mood with a sixteenth note tremolo figure at the beginning that bursts into a middle section utilizing pull offs to open strings and a more rapid tremolo. It features a descending melodic figure that leads to nowhere... Anniversary Theme is a half-remembered hum-along melody at the end of the formal celebration when the chairs are being put away but the decorations are still up. It uses simple harmonies that don't really make sense but just follow that same half-forgotten melody, cadencing here and there when they feel like it. Cloudburst Arpeggio focuses on the chime-like campanella effect produced by a descending slur pulled-off to an open string, and then hammering it back on again. It begins with a straight-ahead arpeggio pattern going through a standard chord change, and then jumps off the edge of the cliff into other areas...Mobile is a perpetual motion machine that rocks its way into an Arabic sounding riff in the middle. The low D tuning allows utilization of a drone on the high open D string that produces interesting sonic effects allowing for unique sounds to pull off to open strings.

Published by Keith Gehle (A0.1420186). Variations on an Irish Theme (Be Thou My Vision) was recorded as part of Keith’s album of 20 original guitar solos entitled Wintersong released in 2002.. The opening theme is followed by three variations and includes detailed fingerings in standard notation. There’s also a version available with TAB on this site. This ancient Irish melody can serve as a beautiful interlude during church services, gigs or wedding ceremonies. Here’s what one listener wrote of Wintersong:As a classical guitarist, I'm always on the lookout for new compositions. I have scoured the internet looking for new guitar music and Keith's Winter Song is the best thing I have seen in a year. If you like the sound of soothing classical guitar, I know you will like listening to this CD. If you’re a guitarist, I highly recommend buying the book of sheet music from Keith's website. I play at least a half dozen of these pieces at my gigs and I just love them. They range from easy to advanced intermediate in difficulty. I can't wait for Keith's next CD Songs of December which will be out for the holiday season!- Larry B.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1429935 By Keith Gehle. By Keith W. Gehle. New Age. Individual part. 21 pages. Keith Gehle #1010571. Published by Keith Gehle (A0.1429935). Released in the summer of 2016, Keith Gehle’s 5th full length commercial recording (Space and Time) is a sincere, heartfelt journey of healing through instrumental sounds and compositions. The album features 11 tracks of steel and nylon string guitars with accompanying piano, cello, flute, oboe, strings and synth pad sounds. Keith wrote the music and produced the recordings over several years after the unexpected death of his brother Ken in January of 2010. The process of grieving an unimaginable loss coupled with writing and recording music as a tribute to his late brother was extremely difficult and at times painful. The resulting work is honest, pure, and for Keith, a healing endeavor. This folio contains seven pieces from the album that work well as guitar solos and include detailed fingerings and interpretation. There's also a version with TAB available on this site. Some reviews of the Space and Time album:...the music is hopeful, heartfelt, and very sincere in addition to being exceptionally beautiful... one of the best guitar albums I heard this year. Highly recommended! - Mainlypiano.com...a lovely and peaceful album, ‘Space and Time’ is like a welcome breath of fresh air. - Journeyscapes Radio A masterpiece of New Age instrumental sounds, filled with moving melodies. - Music Web Express 3000...on Space and Time each track is a gorgeous representation of the new age and classical genre meeting half way to create a successful marriage of sound. There was not one track I could not appreciate. The simplicity, delicacy and arrangements were superb. - NewAgeMusicReviews.netI would say Space and Time is your most ‘spiritual’ work. With your album I feel lots of existential   longing… It’s apparent you’re drawing inspiration from the stillness of nature and dusky silhouettes. I’ve been very stressed lately so this is exactly what I needed. - David (a fan)

Solo Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1171119 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. 20th Century,Barbershop,Blues,Folk,Ragtime. Individual part. 2 pages. Brian Streckfus #771449. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1171119). 1. 2 page arrangement for guitar. I'm sorry to say this is not the full version, but a 16 page version is long winded for my purposes.2. Guitar Tab added. 3. Slurs and slides added. 4. Re-harmonized to be idiomatic for guitar, be less cliche,  and to emphasize the main melody more. 5. Some composers indications added when really necessary.  6. Left hand fingerings added.7. Chord nomenclature added.8. Overly excessive ties removed.9. Some octaves changes to better suit guitar.Tips:1. Be very careful of the difference between slurs and ties! Sometimes I don't show slurs on the tab, but this time I had to.2. The rests are real and they are suggested because they lead to a jazzier rag time sound. I feel like it goes without saying that sustain is ultimately up to the performer, which is why I removed a lot of pedantic ties; they seem to add confusion half the time. 3. The D7 is a slight key change because it has an F# in the chord. It's a secodary dominace chord, V7/V, and often a vii7b5 can replace it. In other words, the F# goes gravitates into the next chord, a G Major chord.4. G6 is really just the 3 thinnest strings of the guitar open. It's a great transition chord.5. The D# is part of the C major blues scale.6. Adding more 7th chords than originally there is almost always an interesting pursuit. Going from G to G7 can certainly aid in helping things sound more goofy.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1165626 By Johann Kaspar Mertz. By Johann Kaspar Mertz. Arranged by Erik Gibelyou. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Individual part. 3 pages. Erik Gibelyou #765991. Published by Erik Gibelyou (A0.1165626). “Gebeth†(Prayer) is one of the most beautiful and moving character pieces written by Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806–1856). Born in Pressburg (modern Bratislava), Mertz later established himself in Vienna as an excellent guitarist and guitar composer. This piece comes from his Bardenklänge (Bardic sounds) written in 1847, a series of short pieces written in the style of piano miniatures popular at the time. An angelic, harp-like introduction gives way to a unique and breathtaking arpeggio figuration in the second half. This modern edition in standard notation is easy to read and includes corrections to fingering and articulation compared to the original edition. To help with learning the piece, I have added my own fingerings and suggested articulations as well as performance notes.
