The hymn that is this Christmas carol has gone through many iterations before popularly settling on this most commonly sung Mendelssohn melody. The arrangement is well within the intermediate level with the possible exception of the first two measures of the last two lines. There is a stretch here between fingers one and four, frets one and five with the additional challenge of a middle voice. Another carol offered by this arranger is, Once In Royal David's City, which has the same stretch but without the inner voice with which to contend. These two pieces are frequently performed together due to other similarities between them.

Here is an original arrangement in a Jazz-Ballade style of a very pretty Christmas Carol. It is originally from France and called Les anges dans nos campagnes which translates to The Angels in our Country. 
Where I grew up it is named in Latin Gloria (in exelcis Deo) and in internationally it is known as Angels we have heard on high.

The entire Christmas Suite 1225 is available for pruchase, including 14 traditional carols and one original piece.

ABOUT: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso and Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. He was mentored in composition by David Rose (Little House on the Prairie), and has composed music Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often hiking with his four dogs. Brad has also played solo guitar for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disney's Grand Californian Resort, playing for Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas, and Cinderella!

This is a festive and fun piece. It will probably take some preparing to play this up to speed if you want to play it fast. The chorus has a nice counter­melody in the bass. The main melody also switches octaves as you might hear a choir exchange parts between the different voices. The first verse stays in the main voice, then the 2nd verse moves up an octave, then down to the bass strings. A certain amount of syncopation will keep the fingers busy on the right hand. The left will need to handle a few stretches but nothing outrageous. A 1/2 barre is required at one point along the way.
