Composed by Anon. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 7 pages. Keith Terrett #1021937. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1441944).

Romance Anonimo for Guitar.

This beautiful piece, known as Romance d'Amour, Anonymous Romance, Spanish Romance, Romance de Amor, Romanza among other names are a very well know piece. The composer is unknown.

Romance Anónimo (Anonymous Romance) is a piece for guitar, also known as Estudio en Mi de Rubira (Study in E by Rubira), Spanish Romance, Romance de España, Romance de Amor, Romance of the Guitar, Romanza and Romance d'Amour among other names. It is composed in the style of parlour music of the late 19th century in Spain or South America,

History:

The style of the piece is that of the parlour music of the late 19th century in Spain or South America. It has a closed three-part form, the first in the minor key and the second being in the major key, with the third part being a restatement of the first.

The origins and authorship of the piece are unknown, hence 'anonimo'. It is thought to have been originally a solo instrumental guitar work from the 19th century, and has variously been attributed to Antonio Rubira, David del Castillo, Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor, Daniel Fortea, Francisco Vicaria l Llobet, Antonio Cano, Vicente Gómez, and Narciso Yepes. It has been suggested that doubts about its authorship may have been encouraged by a wish to avoid paying copyright fees and the desire of publishing companies to claim the lucrative copyright.

Early recordings:

The earliest recording of Romance is found on a cylinder from the Viuda de Aramburo label[3][4][5][6] featuring guitarists Luis and Simon Ramírez, which was made in Madrid sometime between 1897 and 1901. The work is titled Sort-Estudio para Guitarra por S. Ramirez. The name Sort, as it occurs on the cylinder's title, probably refers to Fernando Sor, as his surname is sometimes spelled Sort or Sorts. The recording may be heard on the Doremi CD release Tarrega, His Disciples, and Their Students (DHR-7996) and online at the UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive.

Possible origins:

An early publication of the work, known as Estudio para Guitarra de Rovira and attributed to Spanish guitarist Antonio Rubira,[13] was published by J.A. Medina e Hijo in Argentina before 1925 (probably in 1913, when the publisher ceased activities).

Guitarist and composer Isaías Sávio (Montevideo, 1900 — São Paulo, 1977) published the work in 1959 with the title Romance de Amor (Estudo em Mi) Música de Antonio Rovira (Segunda metade do século XIX) He published information which cited Antonio Rubira as the author. (See Violào e Mestres Junio, 1966 / São Paulo, Brasil.

Sávio gives information that Juan Pargas, who knew Rubira, gave the Estudio de Rovira to the guitarist Juan Valles in 1876 or 1878. Sávio mentions that the work became popular in Buenos Aires and began to be published by, among others, Spaniard Pedro Maza; and that the work appeared in the method of Pedro Mascaró y Reissig, published in Montevideo in 1919, with the title Conocido por Estudio de Rovira.

Publishing company Ricordi of Argentina currently publishes the piece, and attributes authorship to Antonio Rubira.

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. Folk,Instructional,Multicultural,Ragtime,Spiritual,World. Individual part. 13 pages. Richard Hirsch #1024507. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1444613).

I offer an arrangement of the Spiritual “Rock My Soul in the Bosom of Abraham” for acoustic fingerstyle guitar. The arrangement is in the ragtime style of guitar playing reminiscent of Reverend Gary Davis. The melody is played with alternating middle, index, and ring fingers over alternating bases played by the thumb. The melody is repeated in different major keys starting in the key of D and moving through the keys of A , G, and C, returning at the end to D.

The arrangement is intended as a fun instructional introduction to the various keys that are good for fingerstyle guitar with alternating bases in normal tuning. There are lots of little ornamentations like pulls-offs, slurs, and trills that liven up the piece and are good practice for the intermediate to advanced student of fingerstyle guitar.

I have given Presto as the tempo as that is the tempo in which I first conceived of the arrangement, but the piece can also be played at a slower tempo, i.e. Allegro.

In a number of instances in the notation harmonics are marked as sounding one or two octaves higher than notated. These notes are notated and tabulated at the position they are to be found on the fretboard. When played as harmonics they will sound one or two octaves higher.

The piece would I think work well also in contexts where the guitarist might like to have some audience participation in the way of hand-clapping of the beat while moving through the various key changes.

The piece also works well as a warm-up. I really enjoy playing the piece. It makes my day!

Composed by Various. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Baroque. Individual part. 79 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #1053626. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1476094).

Preface

These 20+ Baroque pieces are selected from the repertoires of various string instruments like Lute, Baroque Guitar, Viola da Gamba, etc. Some of the pieces are much better known than others, but they all are of a high musical standard very rewarding for the beginner guitarist. I have tried to keep the level of technical difficulty within the first three grades (1-3) of the classification observed in the annual syllabuses of British musical academies such as the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College, Guildhall College, etc, of prescribed examination pieces for these grades.

The Metronome markings are only editorial suggestions provided as general guidance but should not be taken too literally. This volume is divided into two sections. In the first section the pieces are given in ordinary notation and in decorated pages such as this one, without any fingerings or other technical help, but only for the pleasure of users who prefer a Baroque decorated appearance of books containing Baroque music. In the second section the same pieces are presented in undecorated pages and in double systems of notation pentagrams and tablature hexagrams in which the fingerings for every piece become obvious by the tablature and without further need for more left hand guidance. Therefore this book can be printed on paper either in its complete given form, or in any other page arrangement the user may prefer. Blank pages are provided for insertion at correct places for the management of left and right sides of a two-side view, but the volume has been designed with a paperless environment in mind where a tablet and a score reading application would be used.

The thematic index is provided for general navigation withinthis electronic book.

1 Clicking on any image in the index takes the user to the relevant decorated page of music, or clicking within the square frame number beside each image links the user to the corresponding tablature pages.

2 Clicking on the title of any piece takes the user back to the index.

3 Clicking on the header of the page is used for interchanging between decorated and undecorated pages.

Composed by Various. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Renaissance. Individual part. 83 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #915591. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1327548).

FROM THE PREFACE

The fourth volume of Renaissance music for classical guitar contains twenty mostly well-known and a few more rare intermediate Renaissance pieces taken mainly from lute and vihuela sources.
I have tried to keep the upper level of technical difficulty to the contemporary grade VI level of the A.B.R.S.M. which takes the student to the advanced level (grades VII-VIII).

The pieces are given in two versions, first as decorated pages in ordinary notation, and then the same pieces are again given in undecorated pages of notation and tablature. Therefore each volume contains two books in one and the choice is left to the user whether to keep the volume as presented, or to construct his own book by inclusion or deletion of unwanted pages, blank pages, etc, for use either as a printed or a tablet-screen book version. The addition of tablature of course results in increasing the number of pages needed for the presentation of the pieces, therefore the staff sizes are here reduced to an appropriate degree which can maintain the two-page view principle of any piece without need for automatic or manual page turners, foot pedals etc.

THEMATIC INDEX OF THIS VOLUME  & NAVIGATION BY ACTIVE LINKS

The thematic index following the cover page of this volume contains active links to the decorated pages of the pieces.
The titles of the pieces are also active links interconnecting decorated and tablature pages of the same piece.
The header in pages containing  the title of a piece is an active link bringing back to the thematic index.
The YOUTUBE logo icons in the thematic index are external links to particular performances of these pieces by various artists.
