Take My Breath Away is a song written by Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock for the 1986 film 'Top Gun', performed by American new wave band Berlin. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1986. It was the second single from the film's soundtrack album, following Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone, and Moroder has said that of all the songs he has produced in his career, he is most proud of this track. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium. In 2017, ShortList's Dave Fawbert listed the song as containing one of the greatest key changes in music history and that famous moment is retained in this new concert band arrangement featuring vocal or instrumental soloist (parts provided in E flat, B flat and F).

The song's title comes from Mennen Company’s deodorant  Teen Spirit.  Lead singer, Kurt Cobain, named the song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” after his friend’s advice.  However, he was not aware of the deodorant reference until months after the single release.  He claimed that the song was about his generation's uncaring attitude. The single reached number five on the UK Singles Chart and number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Queen frontman Freddie Mercury contributed harmony vocals to the song, as an uncredited background singer. A 1992 cover version by British dance outfit Undercover was also an international hit. As revealed in his album liner notes, Gold wrote Never Let Her Slip Away about meeting actress and Saturday Night Live cast member Laraine Newman, who was his girlfriend when he composed the song; Dave Grohl of the rock band Foo Fighters called the song the most beautiful piece of music ever written, and maybe one of the most melodically sophisticated songs I've ever heard in my entire life. Perry co-wrote the song with Ester Dean and its producers Stargate and Sandy Vee. Capitol Records released it as the album's third single on October 26, 2010.
