JalousieJalousie is a tango composed by Danish composer Jacob Gade in 1925. There are two main themes in the composition. The first is “a temperamental theme” in D minor followed by a lyrical section in D major. Gade’s composition has two sources of inspiration. The first was by a violent thunderstorm that surprised him one day while he was out on a walk. The other source of inspiration came from a jealousy murder, which was much talked about in those days, and was reported in the newspapers. The first performance was set for September 14, 1925, and Gade himself played the opening violin cadenza of the tango. (Om Jacob Gade 2022)About the ArrangementThis arrangement is written for concert band, but retains the original keys of the music (D minor and D major). The opening cadenza has many options available for performance. The score and parts have the complete cadenza split between the flute and clarinet parts and keep it within a more comfortable range on each instrument. Other options include extra “solo” parts with the entire cadenza written for Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, and Violin. If using these parts, the none soloist Flute 1’s and Clarinet 1’s should only play the “tutti” parts until the end of the cadenza.Included PartsFull ScorePiccoloFlute 1Flute 2Oboe 1Oboe 2Bassoon 1Bassoon 2Clarinet in Bb 1Clarinet in Bb 2Clarinet in Bb 3Bass ClarinetContralto ClarinetContrabass ClarinetAlto Sax 1Alto Sax 2Tenor SaxBaritone SaxTrumpet in Bb 1Trumpet in Bb 2Trumpet in Bb 3Horn in F 1Horn in F 2Horn in F 3Horn in F 4Trombone 1Trombone 2Trombone 3EuphoniumBaritone (T.C.)TubaDouble BassTimpaniMalletsSnare DrumBass DrumCymbalsTambourineSolo Flute (Flute 1)Solo Clarinet in Bb (Clarinet 1)Solo Trumpet in Bb (Trumpet 1)Solo Violin (Oboe 1) Om Jacob Gade.
