Early on in the musical Sweet Charity, the lead character is taken to an exclusive nightclub and this sets the scene for the company to introduce Bob Fosse's choreographic showpiece The Rich Man's Frug (the melody of which is drawn from the song Big Spender). It's a wildly energetic dance number comprising three movements (The Aloof, The Heavyweight and The Big Finish) accentuating Fosse's creative use of unusual poses, gestures, and arm movements. This arrangement draws from the original Broadway and movie scores, presenting as full a version as possible, including the chorus singing towards the end - don't scimp on the percussion, particularly the anvil, as this will certainly conjure up the true spirit of the piece - groovy!

The version of the song from the movie, performed by Conti with an orchestra, hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977, while a version by jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson had a 13-week run chart, eventually peaking at number 28 on June 25. While Ferguson was known to have an uncanny ability to change with the times, no one suspected that in the Spring of 1977, he would pull off the coup of his life. As AllMusic reviewer Richard Ginell put it: Maynard was shrewd, and Maynard was quick, and he managed to beat almost everyone to the punch... This evocative jazz standard has its roots in earlier songs, but first introduced to a mass audience via radio by Duke Ellington and his Orchestra in 1930 and becoming an instant hit, called 'Dreamy Blues' initially, but then renamed, with lyrcis added, as 'Mood Indigo'. The Ellington band performed and recorded the song continuously throughout its 50 years, both in its original form and as a vehicle for individual soloists. The song was featured in a Broadway revue called 'Sophisticated Ladies' (running from 1981–83) earning two awards and eight nominations at the 35th Tony Awards. Mood Indigo is also featured in the films The Cotton Club (1984), The Untouchables (1987).  Harlem Nights (1989) and White Men Can't Jump (1992), among others. This arrangement has been adapted from the brass band version by Edrich Siebert.
