Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1446392 By Roberta Flack. By Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Film/TV,Pop,Singer/Songwriter,Soul. 43 pages. John Ivor Holland #1026202. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1446392). Killing Me Softly with His Song is a song by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel. The lyrics were written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean performance in late 1971. Denied writing credit by Fox and Gimbel, Lieberman released her version of the song in 1972, but it did not chart. In 1973, it became a number-one hit in the United States, Australia and Canada for Roberta Flack, and also reached number six on the UK Singles Chart. In 1996, Fugees recorded the song with Lauryn Hill on lead vocals. Their version became a number-one hit in twenty countries and since then, the song has often been performed by Flack and Fugees together on stage. This version for concert band features cor anglais on the opening melody but plenty of opportunities for expressive playing throughout the band.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1410260 By The Pet Shop Boys. By Johnny Christopher, Mark James, and Wayne Thompson. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Country,Disco,Film/TV,Pop. 49 pages. John Ivor Holland #992678. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1410260). Always on My Mind was originally conceived as a ballad written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James and first recorded by country artist Brenda Lee in 1972. The song has been a crossover hit, charting in both country and pop categories. Elvis Presley's recording was the first commercially successful version of the song, followed by a 1987 hi-NRG/synth-pop interpretation from Pet Shop Boys (which reached UK number one and made US Top Ten). This version by PSB came about in 1987 as part of an anniversary show called 'Love Me Tender', to mark 10 years since the death of Elvis Presley (who had also charted well with the song) - in November 2004, The Daily Telegraph placed the version at number two in a list of the 50 best cover versions of all time and ten years later, a public poll compiled by the BBC saw the song voted the all-time best cover version. The PSB cover has recenbtly been used in the acclaimed British film 'All Of Us Strangers', launching it back into popularity again - this arrangement features, towards the end, an ad lib repeated section where your lead alto sax can really bring down the house!

Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows | Concert BandPersonally, I was always a big fan of the Shrek movies, especially the music. From 'I'm a believer' to 'Welcome to Duloc', all these songs keep stuck in your head, and I did not even mention 'All Stars'... But this one is upliftingAccidentally in Love is a song by American rock band Counting Crows. The song was written for the opening scene of the 2004 DreamWorks animated film Shrek 2 and appears on the movie's soundtrack as the opening track. The single was commercially successful, peaking within the top 40 on several music charts. My name is Willem Aarts, and I have been arranging music since 2016. I play trombone and French horn myself, but I also love to transcribe existing music to several ensembles, from individual parts to full orchestra's and everything inbetween. Shades of Eltham (Eltham Concert Band - 35 Years of Music) - Concert Band VersionDedicated to Ern and Beattie Shade for their contribution to the Eltham Concert Band. The title of this piece is a play on words, of course, indicating both the Shades themselves and the various shades or moods of the music or even perhaps, the shady bushland setting of the area itself. I composed this piece with a few simple ideas in mind. The letters E and A in the word Eltham suggested to me an interval of a fourth, or the other way around, an interval of a fifth – which are both used in many of entries of the themes and musical motifs throughout the work – especially the brass. There are several variations and counter melodies within the work: a bright two-four march-like theme, probably the Main theme, and a variation of this theme in slower three-four time in a minor key with two counter melodies - representing a gentler contrasting mood. On occasions, two or even three themes play simultaneously. A bridging passage in four-four occurs about the two thirds into the composition leading up to a restatement of the main theme. The final climax or Coda actually has both three four melody against the two-four one resolving in the last few bars in a dramatic way.I hope you enjoy my musical tribute to the Shades. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer. Now available as an orchestral arrangement as well. See Related Scores.

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.746749 Composed by Keith Terrett. Contemporary,World. 39 pages. Keith Terrett #3129275. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746749). Here at last is my ’’Elegy sentimentale’’ for Concert Band, and an original composition.I hope it makes an excellent piece for amateur and professional bands alike; with some challenging and interesting woodwind and brass writing for all.I envisage the ’’Elegy’’ eventually making a good piece of film music, and in consequence any directors or producers looking for a movie theme; please feel free to contact me!Elegy Sentimenatle is a mournful & melancholic work, suited for performances on the concert platform.A Supreme Work of Art!The Elegy Sentimentale opens impressively. Keith Terrett plants a C deep in virgin soil; orchestrated brilliantly for bassoon, harp and delineated by pizzicato double basses this bass line is a tree of a forest; and we are at once held by the strength of the roots. The tonality is immediately clear, and there is a grand feeling of space and power in the wide layout of the score. A lone solo clarinet high in the tessitura accompanied by a solo cello with a counter subject state the opening eight bar theme which embodies the seeds of two ideas, which supplies the generating force for the slightly agitated Piu Mosso which follows. The counter subject given by the solo cello at the beginning is now reiterated by the plaintive voice of a solo oboe and a third motif makes an appearance in the solo clarinet; oboe and clarinet duet beautifully over arpeggiated rhythmic impulses in the harp. A new subject of an accompanying nature, derived from all the material thus far presented now comes off at a tangent on the strings cascading downwards and accompanying woodwind who, play the chief melodic subject while horns cry in anguish. This first section is then repeated; I found the whole experience spiritual, detached and wondering, intensified by the breath-taking stillness. Mr Terrett in the middle section that follows now uses his full orchestral forces; after a key change the emotional charge that follows is cataclysmic in its cry of anguish; the main theme is stated in a full dress orchestral tutti, which is then repeated. The music ebbs and flows with slight variations in the woodwind recalling the main ideas; at the very end high strings bring consolation and finally peace. Keith Terrett shows an admirable command of orchestration and melodic construction and combines these qualities with rare imagination and insight.Gerald Manning

Occasional Fanfare - Concert Band Score and Parts PDFThis short Fanfare starts with a Solo Horn (or Horns in unison - cued also on the Trumpet parts) and high woodwind countermelody which gradually builds by adding extra instrumental parts, including 3 more horns, on each restatement until the full concert band and percussion climax in the final time ... Even though it is scored for 4 horns, 4 trumpets etc., it should still work effectively with fewer resources! Let me know what you think. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer

M45 is the Messier catalog number for an open star cluster better known as the Pleiades. Oot-kwa-tah is dedicated to Schenectady County Community College on the forty-fifth anniversary of the college’s establishment as part of the State University of New York. The college sits on land that was once part of the Mohawk nation of the Iroquois Confederacy. Oot-kwa-tah is inspired by the Iroquois legend of M45, the Pleiades star cluster. The Iroquois tell a story about seven children who met each day and danced for hours at a time instead of doing chores. An old man appeared to them one day as they danced. He shone magnificently like silver and was clad from head to toe in brilliant white feathers. The old man warned them to stop dancing lest something terrible happen to them. Ignoring the old man’s warning and growing more and more hungry and lightheaded the children began to rise into the air. If only they had listened to me, the old man thought. As the children’s parents gathered, one little boy heard his father’s voice below. The little boy looked down and saw his father. At that instant he fell back to earth. The other children continued to float higher and higher into the sky to become the Pleiades star cluster. The Iroquois call them Oot-kwa-tah and are reminded of these reckless children each time they see a falling star.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1294307 By Roger Whittaker. By Roger Whittaker and Ronald Webster. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Folk,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. Score and Parts. 44 pages. John Ivor Holland #884691. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1294307). The Last Farewell is a song from 1971 by British folk singer Roger Whittaker and Ron Webster. When Whittaker hosted a radio programme at that time, one of his ideas was to invite listeners to send their poems or lyrics to me and I would make songs out of them. We got a million replies, and I did one each week for 26 weeks. Webster, a silversmith from Birmingham, sent Whittaker his poem entitled The Last Farewell, and this became one of the selections to appear on the radio programme. It was recorded, and featured on Whittaker's 1971 album New World in the Morning (A Special Kind of Man in the US and Canada). It is one of the fifty all-time singles to have sold 10 million (or more) physical copies worldwide, peaking at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. It was kept from number 1 by Rod Stewart's Sailing, resulting in an oddity that the top 2 songs in the UK singles chart at the time had a nautical theme. The Last Farewell also went to number 1 in 11 other countries, selling an estimated 11 million copies worldwide, making it Whittaker's best-known song. Created in memory of Roger Whittaker (1936-2023).
