Over time, I identified a half-dozen ballads and folk tunes that Presley and his writers reworked into hit tunes. I mused on Elvis’ popular title as the King of Rock and Roll, and thought of another king, as Karl L. King is often called the King of the Circus March. I decided to write a march paying tribute to both Elvis Presley and Karl L. King: March: The Kings. Angels We Have Heard On High is a Christmas carol to the hymn tune Gloria from a traditional French song. The song's subject is the birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke, specifically the scene in which shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child. The flexible instrumentation enables a mixture of instruments, from small ensemble to orchestra. Essential fingerings and bowings are provided in the string parts. This arrangement is suitable for amateur players who have played the instrument for around 1 year. For instruments of Part 2, 3 and 4, the range is within one octave.
