A new exploration of a traditional classic Christmas hymn.
The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818.
He was a schoolmaster and organist in the village of Arnsdorf, Germany.
The words are from a poem written by Father Joseph Mohr
from Oberndorf, Germany, Stille Nacht in 1816.

Concert band arrangement is a grade level 3+. Included is 8 1/2 x 11 and 8 1/2 x 14 scores plus all parts.

The Three Ravens is an English folk ballad first compiled and published by Thomas Ravenscroft in 1611, but it is perhaps even older. 
The ballad takes the form of three scavenger birds conversing about where and what they should eat. One tells of a newly slain knight, but they find he is guarded by his loyal hawks and hounds.

The old folk tune is arranged for concert band. It is in the medium level.

Arirang
Arirang is a popular form of Korean folk song. Essentially a simple song, which consists of the refrain ‘Arirang, arirang, arariyo’ and two simple lines, which differ from region to region.  The simple musical composition invites improvisation, imitation and singing in unison,. It is estimated the total number of folk songs carrying the title ‘Arirang’ at some 3,600 variations belonging to about sixty versions. Freedom of expression and empathy are its hallmarks. Anyone can create new lyrics, adding to the song’s regional and cultural diversity. Arirang is universally sung and enjoyed by the Korean nation. North and South.  Arirang is playable by any Grade 3 band. Included is 8 1/2 x 11 and 8 1/2 x 14 score and all parts.

The Parting Glass is an Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends.  The parting glass, or stirrup cup, was the final hospitality offered to a departing guest. Once they had mounted, they were presented one final drink to fortify them for their long travels.

The Parting Glass should be played with emotion.
The musicians need to perform the composition with expression and rubato tempos. Tastefully stretching, slowing, and hurrying the tempo imparting flexibility and emotion to the performance. Bass drum should be more of feel than a sound.

Grade level 3.
